St George Illawarra Dragons vs Penrith Panthers Prediction – Round 27 2025
04/09/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips
The St. George Illawarra Dragons will close out another disappointing campaign when they face the Penrith Panthers at WIN Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After still being top eight contenders through wins over the Raiders and Sharks in early August, the Dragons have plummeted during the last three weeks and will miss finals for the ninth time in the past 10 seasons.

The Panthers rested virtually their entire squad last week to be freshened and primed for another finals tilt, but this year they will not only need to win it from outside the top four, but after playing an elimination final on the road.

Brian To’o and Liam Martin will have another rest, meaning Paul Alamoti keeps his spot on the wing and last week’s captain Matt Eisenhuth stays in the 17. The Dragons head in unchanged from last week.

Dragons vs Panthers Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

One of the many dead rubbers that always materialise this time of year, this result will largely hinge on who the Panthers do or do not pick to play.

Frozen in seventh, there is no incentive for them to try and win this match, but will they rest 16 players again like they did last week?

We doubt it, as they’ll want to make sure their big hitters aren’t too rusty heading into the finals.

Unless they do wheel out the kids once again, we can't see Penrith losing to a St George side who gave up on season 2025 some weeks ago and have been conceding points for fun as they limp to a lowly 15th placed finish.

Betting tip: Penrith Panthers.

First Tryscorer Prediction
