Despite their promising start to the season, the South Sydney Rabbitohs suddenly find themselves in 16th and in desperate need of a run of positive results.

This clash against coach Wayne Bennett’s old side the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium could be the first in that run, if they harness the effort they put in last start.

Souths were much improved during last Saturday’s encounter with Melbourne, but they couldn’t come away with the chocolates, falling in golden point to mark their fourth successive defeat.

They now face a side which had its momentum brought to a halt by Newcastle last week. The Dolphins sit just one point outside the top eight after conceding a last-minute try to lose that match, snapping a run of three mammoth victories.

Junior Tupou replaces Jack Bostock who suffered a season-ending ACL injury for the Dolphins while Josh Kerr returns on the bench.

Campbell Graham, Cody Walker and Peter Mamouzelos are all back on deck in a major boost for the Rabbitohs, meaning Ryan Gray, Liam Le Blanc and Isaiah Tass drop out.

Also, all eyes will be on Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston as he closes in on Ken Irvine’s record for the most tries scored in NRL history.

For the full team lists, along with betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer, and over/under markets, check out our Dolphins vs Rabbitohs prediction and preview below.

Dolphins vs Rabbitohs Teams

The Dolphins Team List

1.
Dolphins vs Rabbitohs Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

And the award for the unluckiest team to feature last week goes to – the South Sydney Rabbitohs!

After launching a comeback of herculean proportions against their bogey team the Storm, the Bunnies still couldn’t seal the win.

Alex Johnston had the commentators in disbelief as he ran in four tries to not only put the Bunnies on the brink of victory, but himself on the brink of breaking the all-time NRL try scoring record.

A shanked Latrell Mitchell conversion was the only thing that prevented them from claiming a memorable victory, although it’s hard to put any blame on the mercurial fullback as they were only still in the game thanks to his heroics.

After a performance like that, even though it resulted in a loss, makes it very hard to tip against the Rabbits, Mitchell and Johnston. Particularly after the Dolphins lost to Newcastle of all people last week.

Betting tip: South Sydney Rabbitohs.

First Try Scorer Prediction

We were only ever going to pick one man for this market. Fresh off a four-piece feed against the Storm and now a whisker away from becoming the greatest try scorer the game has ever seen, whenever fit, Alex Johnston will always be a prime candidate for this market.

Betting tip: Alex Johnston.

Over/Under Prediction

When the bunnies hop down the highway and hit the road, they tend to leave the points at home.

Nine of South Sydney's last 10 away matches have gone under the total match points line and we’re tipping that trend to continue at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

Betting tip: Under total match points.
