The 2024 NRL Finals are here! Only eight teams remain after one of the most thrilling, unpredictable and closely contested seasons in recent memory.

It took all 27 rounds to finalise the top eight, with the final spot still up for grabs right up until the final game of the season.

We got there in the end and now we stand on the precipice of the first week of the finals.

The final final of week one of the NRL post-season sees the Bulldogs and Sea Eagles tangle at Stadium Australia on Sunday afternoon.

Both of these sides have oscillated between the sublime and the ridiculous this season and neither enter this match on a particularly high note.

The lead up to this game has also been swirling with injury news, off-field controversy and questions over both side’s finals’ credentials.

Nevertheless, here we are and if both of these sides play to their full potential, this could be a very entertaining footy match indeed.

Both will need to be at their best if they are to progress to the next stage of the finals. Unfortunately for one of them, their best won’t be enough, as this is do-or-die footy and only one of these sides will get to play on in 2024.

So, who is moving on and who needs to start planning their Mad Monday celebrations? Let’s find out.

For the latest news, analysis, players to watch, betting tips odds and more for this clash, check out our Bulldogs vs Sea Eagles predictions and preview below.

Bulldogs vs Sea Eagles Preview

Merely a month ago the Bulldogs were shaping as a genuine dark horse for not just the top four but the premiership itself.

What a difference a few weeks can make. Back-to-back losses in which they conceded a total of 78 points, to end the season, less than ideal finals preparation if you ask us.

Now chuck in the fact that Josh Addo Carr has been stood down for an off-field incident and it’s not looking great for the Belmore boys.

Manly’s preparation hasn’t exactly been ideal either. Yes, they beat the Bulldogs just two weeks ago, but that win was flanked by two losses, one where they conceded 40 points and the other to wooden spooners the Tigers.

There’s a reason these sides are seen as inseparable in the H2H market. We could very well have a golden point epic on our hands here. Watch this space.

Players to Watch

Luke Brooks

After a decade in the NRL, Luke Brooks finally gets to embark on his first ever finals time. All it took was for him to leave the Tigers. Shocker.

Turns out he wasn’t the problem, and he has performed admirably in his maiden Manly season and will be hoping to do the same in his maiden finals match.

All eyes will be fixed on Brooks to see how he handles the big stage at the first time of asking. No pressure, mate.

Stephen Crichton

No stranger to September after winning back-to-back-to-back premierships with Penrith over the last three seasons in Stephen Crichton.

His finals experience this year will be a little different than years gone by, as he won’t be turning out for the out and out favourites for the title.

Instead, he’ll lead out his new side the Doggies and as their best performer this season, no doubt his teammates will be looking to him to once again set the standards as they attempt to move past Manly.

Tom Trbojevic

Will he, or won’t he? That was the question on everyone’s lips as all the talk in the lead up to this one was around whether or not Tommy Turbo would be fit to suit up at the back for the Sea Eagles.

Luckily for the Manly faithful he’s been given the all clear for take-off, recovering from his shoulder injury in the nick of time.

Undoubtedly in the top three players in the game when on song, for the Sea Eagles sake, hopefully he can stay on the field for the full 80 in this one.

Reed Mahoney

After a tough start to life at Belmore last season, diminutive rake Reed Mahoney has rediscovered his mojo in his second season at the Bulldogs.

His premium service has returned as has his uncanny knack of finding the line when his team are in need of a four-pointer. If Canterbury are to move on here, Mahoney’s influence in the middle will be key.

Bulldogs vs Sea Eagles Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Anyone got a coin? At the time of writing these two are dead even in the H2H market.

If you turn to recent history to find an edge, you’ll see that these two sides only faced off once during the regular season and that was only two weeks ago.

Manly won that one 34-22 in a topsy turvy encounter. However, the Bulldogs were without the service of main man Stephen Crichton on that occasion.

After looking like top four contenders a month ago, the Bulldogs form has gone off a cliff.

Their three consecutive losses to end the regular season, culminating in a 44-6 thrashing at the hands of the Cowboys, has forced our hand into tipping Manly here.

Betting tip: Manly Sea Eagles 1-12.

First Try Scorer Prediction

While we can see captain Critta barging over for the Bulldogs early, Manly flyer Tolutau Koula is also piquing our interest.

A truly dynamic centre, Koula is a little more slept on than some of Manly’s other outside backs, so there is value to be had for those willing to back him to be the first to find the tryline.

Betting tip: Tolutau Koula or Stephen Crichton.

Over/Under Prediction

There were 60 points in Manly’s last game and 50 in the Bulldogs. Then the week before when both of these sides met there were 56.

The over/under here is set at 43.5 points and attacking extraordinaire Tom Trbojevic returns to the fold. You do the math.

Betting tip: Over total match points.
