Brisbane Broncos vs Cronulla Sharks Prediction – Round 16 2025

19/06/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

ne of the many teams fresh off a bye this week, the Brisbane Broncos will look to climb up the ladder when they host the Cronulla Sharks at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A rampant 44-14 victory over the Titans ended a concerning four-match losing streak for the Broncos and has them placed in seventh position.

The win coincided with the electric return of fullback Reece Walsh, who scored a double. Despite achieving the desired result over the Dragons last round with a 30-18 comeback win, the Sharks still have plenty more to offer. They sit fifth on the ladder but interestingly would find themselves below Brisbane with a loss on Sunday, such is the closeness of the standings at the moment.

Patrick Carrigan and Payne Haas have been named to back up from Origin II for Brisbane, while Jack Gosiewski returns after an injury layoff, replacing Ben Te Kura.

For the visitors, Siosifa Talakai slots into the backline and Daniel Atkinson comes onto the bench with Mawene Hiroti out.

Here’s how both sides should line up for this Suncorp showdown, as well as some betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer, and over/under markets. This is our Broncos vs Sharks prediction.

Broncos vs Sharks Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Sharks are in the sweet spot of currently being a top team with no Origin representation.

The same can’t be said for the Broncos in either regard at the moment. They'll have a number of players in the Origin arena and outside of a big win over the lowly Titans, haven’t resembled much of a threat for some time now.

Can Brisbane’s Origin stars make it back from Perth in one piece? At the very least we expect to see a slight reshuffle in their pack, with either Payne Haas or Pat Carrigan, or both, playing reduced minutes and starting this one on the bench.

Suncorp Stadium is always a factor, but all things considered we’re taking the Sharks in a close one here.

Betting tip: Cronulla Sharks.

First Try Scorer Prediction

If there’s one man who can save the Broncos season, it’s their mercurial fullback Reece Walsh.

After a slow start to the season, followed by an absence through injury, Reece Lightning returned last time out, to celebrate his skipper Adam Reynolds’ 300th first grade game with a late double.

Walsh has also scored at least one try in each of his last five home appearances against opponents that were ranked higher on the ladder, is this the start of a try scoring streak for the young superstar? We think so.

Betting tip: Reece Walsh.

Over/Under Prediction

Recent history is a pretty strong indicator as to how this one could play out in terms of total match points.

Each of the last five matches between Brisbane and Cronulla have gone under the total match points line and that’s the way we’re leaning here.

Betting tip: Under total match points.
