Australia vs Fiji Prediction – Rugby League World Cup 2026

Both Australia and Fiji enter their Round 2 World Cup clash with opening week wins under their belts, but unless we see an unlikely draw, someone’s perfect start to the 2026 RLWC is coming to an abrupt end here.

Unsurprisingly, the Kangaroos are heavy favourites for this one, but head coach Kevin Walters has signalled there will be sweeping changes to his side, which could give Fiji a sniff.

We could see a completely different Green and Gold spine on Sunday, with Sam Walker, Tom Dearden and James Tedesco all tipped to come in for Mitch Moses, Cameron Munster and Reece Walsh respectively.

Does this level of potential rotation give Fiji an in here? Or is the Kangaroos squad simply too deep to be contended with regardless of who runs out? Let’s find out!

Australia vs Fiji Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Kangaroos will close out Round 2 of the Rugby League World Cup, when they host Fiji at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday night.

Australia edged a tense 24-22 win over New Zealand to kick-start their home tournament, with debutant Jack Bostock announcing himself in style with a hat-trick and 231 run metres, which included the match-winning try.

Kevin Walters’ side will be without halfback Mitchell Moses, who's been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a high-grade muscle tear.

With Cameron Munster rested this week, Tom Dearden shifts to five-eighth alongside debutant halfback Sam Walker.

James Tedesco is also expected to line up at fullback, giving Reece Walsh a week off after his scintillating showing against the Kiwis. Bradman Best is also in contention to start here.

Fiji, meanwhile, head into the clash full of confidence after a 40-12 win over the Cook Islands, with Brandon Wakeham (three try assists, six goals) and Apisai Koroisau both outstanding.

It's a dangerous Fiji outfit, but Australia's World Cup record against them is perfect, seven wins from seven meetings, including a 42-8 win in 2022 and a 54-6 win in 2017.

Betting tip: Australia.

First Try Scorer Prediction

There are Test debuts and then there’s Jack Bostock’s Test debut. The Dolphins’ flyer staked his claim as one of the game’s best wingers with a stunning hat-trick against New Zealand in his first game in Green and Gold.

This hatty included both the Kangaroos’ opener as well as the match winner five minutes from time.

His aerial abilities make him both a prime candidate for whoever is doing the kicking for Australia and anyone looking for a first try scorer for their Australia vs Fiji bet slip.

Betting tip: Jack Bostock.

Over/Under Prediction

The over/under for total match points has been set at 59.5 here. In the last three meetings between these sides at World Cups, this total has been eclipsed twice.

We always like to side with history when it comes to this market and we’re predicting there to be at least 60 points spread across the scoreboard come the end of the 80 in this one.

Betting tip: Over 59.5 total match points.

Line Prediction

Due to the strength of Australia, Fiji have been given a mammoth 44.5-point head start in the line market.

No doubt Australia have the ability to win by this margin as they’ve shown in the past, but with a number of changes to key positions expected, we aren’t expecting the new combinations to be able to cover this total.

Betting tip: Fiji (+44.5) line.
