Dragons Disaster Deepens as Su'A Sent for Early Shower
The biggest talking point of the Round 7 judiciary sheet is undoubtedly the heavy sanction handed to Dragons backrower Jaydn Su'A.
Su'A was sent from the field for a brutal high shot on Rabbitohs captain Cameron Murray during Saturday night's 30-12 defeat.
The Match Review Committee has since assessed the hit as a Grade 3 Shoulder Charge, leaving Su'A with a mandatory three-match ban even with an early guilty plea.
Should the Dragons forward choose to fight the charge at the judiciary and lose, the suspension will escalate to a month on the sidelines.
It is a massive blow for St George Illawarra, who are already reeling from sweeping changes and the looming exit of coach Shane Flanagan.
Kodi Nikorima and Hudson Young Facing Two-Match Suspensions
The Dolphins will be without veteran playmaker Kodi Nikorima for their next two outings after he accepted a ban for a hip drop tackle on Mitch Kenny.
The incident occurred in the 18th minute of Friday's Darwin clash, resulting in a Grade 2 Dangerous Contact charge and a long recovery for the Panthers hooker, who is suspected to have a broken ankle.
Meanwhile, Raiders star Hudson Young is also heading for the sidelines after being cited for a Grade 2 Careless High Tackle on Sua Fa'alogo.
Despite Canberra securing a gritty win over the Storm, Young will miss the next two matches after taking the early plea for his second offence of the season.
Piakura and Guler Hit with Repeat Offender Fines
The NRL’s wallet continues to grow as the Match Review Committee cracks down on repeat offenders.
Broncos back-rower Brendan Piakura was hit with a $3000 fine for a Crusher Tackle on Jahream Bula. As this was his second offence of this nature, the financial penalty was escalated to the maximum available for the charge.
Dragon Emre Guler had a night to forget, picking up two Dangerous Contact charges in the loss to Souths. His second charge, involving a hit on kicker Jamie Humphreys, resulted in an $1800 fine due to his prior record.
Cowboys forward Coen Hess finds himself in a similar predicament, copping an $1800 fine for a late hit on Jake Simpkin.
Bulldogs, Eels and Rabbitohs Players Escape Suspension
The final sweep of charges resulted in standard $1000 fines for first-time offenders. Matt Burton and Sitili Tupouniua will pay for high tackle and shoulder charge offences respectively, while Eel Toni Mataele accepted the penalty for his shot in the same match.
Rabbitohs hooker Peter Mamouzelos was also hit twice, though his clean record sees him escape with $750 for each Grade 1 infraction.
Wests Tigers centre Patrick Herbert and Warriors rake Wayde Egan also opted for early pleas, rounding out a busy weekend for the MRC. In better news for Penrith, Casey McLean is available for selection this week after serving his one-game suspension.
