WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event: John Cena’s Final Match
11/12/2025|SB Staff|Novelties Tips & Predictions

Grab the tissues. The Greatest of All Time’s time is officially up.

Yes, the crescendo of John Cena’s year-long retirement tour finally reaches its last stop at Saturday Night’s Main Event, this time from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.

Cena will bring down the curtain against the “Ring General”, Gunther, who won the tournament and earned the right to be the final opponent of the “Never Seen Seventeen”.

But as per the GOAT’s wishes, the night is not just about him and his final match. The rest of the card features some of the superstars of tomorrow, with several bouts pitting main roster talent against the best of NXT.

Of course, it’s a WWE live event, so we’re on the lookout for surprise appearances (there should be plenty), heel turns, and the usual shenanigans that come with every WWE show.

It’s set to be an emotional night.

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Predictions & Preview*

Cody Rhodes vs Oba Femi - Singles Match (Champion vs Champion)

It’s Champion versus Champion, and this one is expected to be a genuine contest between two heavy hitters.

Femi has been one of the standout risers on the Black and Gold brand and is widely viewed as a future star on the main roster when the time comes.

It’s intriguing to see how this plays out. Cody is the face of WWE and you wouldn’t normally expect him to lose to someone from NXT. On the other hand, Femi has just won the title back from Ricky Saints and has been on a warpath towards the top.

Stopping his momentum with a loss to Cody simply because it’s Cody doesn’t seem logical, even if logic often goes out the window in professional wrestling.

The most likely scenario is some form of interference leading to a No Contest. It’s very easy to picture Drew McIntyre appearing and getting involved to get his hands on Cody again. That way, both men stay strong.

Betting tip: Rhodes wins by DQ

Bayley vs Sol Ruca - Singles Match

In the spirit of giving back, Bayley, a former Black and Gold standout, threw out the challenge. Sol Ruca wasted no time accepting.

The “Sol Snatcher” has been on a mission since returning from injury, and this is another opportunity to continue her rise and work with one of the best in-ring performers in the women’s division.

It has been an up-and-down year for Bayley, dating back to being pulled from the WrestleMania card. We know she will put on a strong performance, but she does not always land on the winning side.

We think that trend continues here, giving Sol one of the biggest wins of her young WWE career.

AJ Styles & Dragon Lee vs Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater - Tag Team Match

The newest addition to the card will see the WWE World Tag Team Champions take on TNA’s X-Division Champion Leon Slater, who teams up with Je’Von Evans.

Earlier this year at TNA Slammiversary, AJ Styles made his highly anticipated return to TNA Wrestling and endorsed Slater as the future of the X-Division. Now they stand across the ring from one another in a tag team dream match.

Styles and Lee have delivered some brilliant performances lately, and that should continue here. Slater and Evans will have their moments and show plenty, but the established champions from the main roster should come away with the win.

John Cena vs Gunther - John Cena’s Retirement Match

The internet has been buzzing with predictions for this one.

From fantasy booking to theories about surprise appearances or even someone replacing Gunther as Cena’s final opponent, every angle has been covered.

There is a bit to unpack, so bear with us.

The entrance: Will we get Thuganomics? Or the classic “My Time is Now”?

Will WWE fill the stage with talent to form a guard of honour? Will they all be dressed as John Cena in tribute to his famous WrestleMania 25 entrance? Special video package? Live music performance? They will go all out for this.

The introduction: Alicia Taylor and Mark Shunock have done an incredible job introducing Cena throughout his retirement tour, but for the final match, does WWE bring in someone special? Perhaps Lilian Garcia, or maybe an old friend?

The match itself: How much back and forth will we see before someone gains control?

The spirit of the night is about giving back, so it’s almost certain Cena is not winning. Gunther should claim victory and secure his second win in a WWE legend’s retirement match this year.

We will undoubtedly see Cena’s greatest hits, including the big moves and the dramatic near-falls. The only question is how Gunther finishes the job: pinfall, submission or forcing Cena to pass out?

After this, you really won’t be able to see him.
