Wildcard Weekend was aptly named. Wild swings in games, ferocious defence, comebacks for the ages and - thankfully - a few winners along the way for followers of The Huddle.

Woody Marks, Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence and the underdog Panthers all did the job for us on the punt, but we never look back in this game. We always march forward and this week we’re marching toward another epic weekend of NFL action.

Buffalo Bills @ Denver Broncos Prediction

Sunday, January 18, 8:30am AEDT – Empower Field

It was Josh Allen versus Jacksonville last week and will again be Josh Allen versus Denver this week.

The reigning MVP simply carried his Bills to victory, using a bevy of pass-catchers unknown to many. He scored two rushing touchdowns and had an 80% completion rate. He refused to lose.

Allen’s Bills face a similar opponent here. A competent if not sensational QB and a really stout D but the extra juice in this match-up will come from a revved-up Denver crowd.

Mile High is no joke for opponents, but Allen is built for this.

For Sean Payton’s men, offensively, the game might revolve around what Bo Nix looks like at QB. At times, he’s looked like a phenomenally talented playmaker and in other games he’s looked the reason they won’t make a Super Bowl run.

This game is hovering around a pick ‘em, meaning Denver feels like the better team but Buffalo possesses the best player on the field. Which is the same scenario as Jacksonville… and we know who came out on top.

I’m taking on #17 again. Give me the Broncos at Mile High.

Head-to-head prediction: Broncos 24 – Bills 22

Betting tip: RJ Harvey anytime TD.

San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks Prediction

Sunday, January 18, 12:00pm AEDT – Lumen Field

You need not look too far back into the past for a reminder at the ferocity of this Seahawk D.

In week 18, against these Niners, Seattle dominated from wire-to-wire keeping San Francisco to just 3 points. They kept Christian McCaffrey to 23 yards rushing. It was 378 yards of offence versus 180. A proper beatdown.

History tells us the rematch in the playoffs is often hard-fought and much closer but many of those teams on the rebound did not lose someone the calibre of George Kittle.

Big #85’s loss will be felt in more ways than one. He’s a playmaker and attention goes his way, allowing others to excel, but he’s also the emotional leader of the team. He’s a mammoth loss.

The Seahawks are rested, they’re at home and they have a championship-level defence. No excuses, even against a divisional foe without much to lose.

Head-to-head prediction: Seattle 26 – San Francisco 20

Betting tip: SGM - Jaxon Smith-Njigba 80++ receiving yards and Seattle win.

Houston Texans @ New England Patriots

Monday, January 19, 7:00am AEDT – Gillette Stadium

For a long while on Tuesday afternoon, you wondered whether the Texans were going to throw away a certain victory.

The defence had Aaron Rodgers paralysed, and Woody Marks was running hard out of the backfield.

The problem was the play of QB CJ Stroud. He was missing throws and losing possession of the ball on seemingly every other snap.

The box score was ugly. Five fumbles and a really poor interception almost coughed up a Texans W.

However, this sensational defence refused to yield and in the end, managed to score themselves twice to end the Steelers season with a thud.

Drake Maye got the maiden playoff game jitters out of the way and looked good in the second half against LA.

I’d expect a strong showing from him now as he knows what to expect. The game may well be decided by Houston’s ability to get to Maye and force an error or two.

Having said that, unless Stroud improves his play, the Texans will have no chance in New England.

Head-to-head prediction: Texans 23 – Patriots 21.

Betting tip: Texans +2.5

Los Angeles Rams @ Chicago Bears Prediction

Monday, January 19, 10:30am AEDT – Soldier Field

Arguably the game of the weekend in The Windy City. The Rams roll into Chicago with more questions than answers despite scoring 34 points in Carolina.

Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua give them a chance against anyone, and they’ll get their chance here, as Chicago have not been a strong defence for the most part.

The Bears (or Da Bears) overcame a 21-3 halftime deficit. Magic man Caleb Williams again proved despite the flaws in his play, he has some skills that will make you shake your head in disbelief.

The Rams’ defence has underperformed for most of this season and the same can be said for Chicago’s D. Which offensive attack can take advantage?

Head-to-head prediction: Rams 27 – Bears 24.

Betting tip: DaVante Adams anytime TD.
