2025 NFL AFC South Prediction | Texans the Team to Beat

04/09/2025|Josh Jenkins|NFL Tips & Predictions

The 25/26 NFL season is here. We’re past the pre-season, past the Tay Tay appearance that broke the internet on ‘New Heights’ and hopefully past most of the contract holdouts and trade demands.

We’re looking at every team, every strength, every possible weakness and a way to make money on all 32 NFL squads. This time we take a look at one of the most open divisions in football - the AFC South.

For the latest analysis, predictions and betting tips for the AFC South, check out my AFC South preview and predictions below. You can also follow me on the feed for plenty of other NFL tips and predictions throughout the season.

Houston Texans Season Preview

Head Coach: Demeco Ryans.

Last season: 10-7.

The Texans were a fascination last season - largely due to the play of the QB.

CJ Stroud looked the next big thing entering last season, but his play dipped, particularly when the offensive line's performance fell away. An injury to star receiver Nico Collins also proved costly - as well as injuries elsewhere.

All in all, they still found a way to win 10 games behind a vicious defence and great coaching from Ryans.

For them to take another leap, though, CJ will need to be the man driving everything. He’ll need his offensive line to stand tall and his receivers to remain healthy but ultimately this team - and most across the NFL - will go as far as the QB can take them.

Nick Chubb arrives from Cleveland. We know his best is deadly but he’s a well-worn commodity at running back.

Defensively, Will Anderson and Derek Stingley Jr lead a very good D. Both are standouts.

Projected Record: 10-7.

Best Bet: Will Anderson Jr +10.25 total sacks in regular season.

Indianapolis Colts Season Preview

Head Coach: Shane Steichen.

Last season: 8-9.

It’s another interesting and unnerving season in Indy.

Daniel Jones has been named the starter, which means Anthony Richardson has been relegated to back-up, despite the draft capital the team used on him.

Jones is a well-known commodity, solid but not game changing.

There is veteran presence on this squad - DeForest Buckner anchors the D line, Jon Taylor has done some sensational things at running back and Quenton Nelson can be a force on the offensive front. Otherwise, it’s looking like slim pickings in Indiana on the football front.

It’s been a carousel of quarterbacks since Andrew Luck departed town. Matt Ryan, Phil Rivers, Richardson and now Danny Dimes. But as we’ve seen with Jones on bad teams, there will be less dimes and more picks.

Projected Record: 6-11.

Best Bet: Jonathan Taylor -1,175 rush yards in regular season.

Jacksonville Jaguars Season Preview

Head Coach: Liam Coen.

Last season: 4-13.

Aside from a random run to an AFC title game with Blake Bortles and Leonard Fournette making moves and a fierce defence featuring an up-and-coming Jalen Ramsey, this has been an underachieving franchise.

Now, Doug Pedersen moves on and Liam Coen arrives.

Trevor Lawrence remains - on big cash - and needs to prove his worth. He has the tools - size, athletic prowess, arm strength - but the former Clemson QB has made bad mistakes at bad times. And that needs to stop, otherwise questions about his place on the Jags will arise.

The receiving core looks talented. Brian Thomas Jr was a beast as a rook, Dyami Brown arrives off a nice playoff run in Washington and Travis Hunter was taken at pick two overall - but we know he’s touted as a cornerback, too. We shall see how that plays out.

Evan Engram left Jacksonville, which will leave a hole. And the defence overall is a real to be determined.

With a weaker division, they have a chance at competing, but history suggests this team will again struggle.

Projected Record: 7-10.

Best Bet: Trevor Lawrence most interceptions thrown in regular season.

Tennessee Titans Season Preview

Head Coach: Brian Callahan.

Last season: 3-14.

Last season, being Coach Callahan’s first, was a bad one so when you’re bad you may as well be really bad and give yourself a shot at glory in the NFL draft.

They landed the No. 1 pick, who turned out to be University of Miami QB, Cam Ward.

Tennessee is clearly a rebuilding franchise after some success with Mike Vrabel in charge, but the Will Levis era did not last and now it’s on Ward to charge ahead.

Around the rookie, Calvin Ridley will be a focus on the outside and Treylon Burks will also need to make plays.

Defensively, the pass D was sensational, allowing the fewest yards of all 32 teams. The problem was elsewhere. The run D was close to NFL-worst, and the scoring D was poor - conceding 27.1 points per game. Only two teams were worse.

All eyes are on Ward; they always are when you draft a QB at pick 1.

Projected Record: 5-12

Best Bet: Cam Ward -18.5 passing touchdowns in regular season.

NFL AFC South Winner 2025-26 Odds
