Buffalo Bills Season Preview

Head Coach: Sean McDermott.

Last season: 13-4.

It’s almost rinse and repeat for these Bills.

Like Baltimore, Buffalo have been oh so close on, oh so many occasions. Neither have been able to get past Mr. Mahomes in big moments. There’s no shame in that, but these dudes are now playing for Super Bowls, not personal accolades.

James Cook is a key piece to Allen and the Bills’s offensive force and despite a contract dispute, Cook got his cash and is good to go. He rushed for 1,000 yards and sixteen scores last season and must remain a feature in this offence.

Last season, the defence was #5 for takeaways but only #21 for sacks, meaning when they could not turn the ball over, they struggled to impact the game. Joey Bosa arrives, Matt Milano returns, as does Tre White, meaning much will be asked of older players on ‘prove it’ deals.

Like Lamar, Josh Allen is an other-worldly talent at quarterback, but the time is now for him to make the leap over Mahomes and into the game that turns superstars into legends.

Projected Record: 12-5.

Best Bet: Bills to beat Miami on the road and at home.

Miami Dolphins Season Preview

Head Coach: Mike McDaniel.

Last season: 8-9.

I’m worried the wheels will fall off in South Beach this season.

Some love Coach McDaniel’s vibe; some think he’s got no control of the locker room and stands no chance when Tua Tagovailoa goes down. In reality, he’s hardly alone when it comes to losing your starting QB, but his coaching philosophy is fascinating.

Tyreek Hill is a superstar but he’s a handful. Off-field he’s had more indiscretions and issues than most and on-field he was sub-1,000 yards last season. It was a worrying dip in production.

Miami were pretty strong defensively last season in regard to yards per game allowed. They were NFL #6 in that category.

We know about Tua’s injury history, but truth be told, they were only mediocre when he was on the grass. With him at QB, the Dolphins went 6-5 and without, they dropped to 2-4. During Tua’s absence early in the season, the ‘Fins averaged just 10 points per game.

So, whatever you think about McDaniel, if he has his QB he has a chance. Without him, he might be the first coach axed.

Projected Record: 4-13.

Best Bet: Jayden Waddle -925.5 yards in regular season.

New England Patriots Season Preview

Head Coach: Mike Vrabel.

Last season: 4-13.

When Bill Belichick departed Foxborough, owner Bob Kraft thought to hire a known commodity.

He signed former Patriot defender Jerod Mayo who lasted only one season, winning just four games. Proven head coach, Mike Vrabel arrives at the helm and brings with him Josh McDaniels - or at least brings him back.

Mike V ended his Tennessee tenure with a 54-45 record across six seasons. He won a pair of playoff games, leading the Titans to the 2019 AFC title game.

Drake Maye will quarterback the Pats. His rookie season was solid and full of promise. His numbers were less than eye-popping but he made some plays in big spots to show New England fans he was the QB for the future.

The remainder of the roster becomes important as Maye improves. Stefon Diggs will be needed as a safety blanket, and we know Rhamondre Stevenson can tote the rock when required.

Christian Gonzalez is a standout young corner who can lock down opposing WR1’s. He was a second-team All-Pro last season.

Vrabel will bring toughness and tenacity to this team, but the overall skill level and talent looks beneath most of the rest of the NFL. But effort and intensity can take you a long way.

Projected Record: 7-10.

Best Bet: Christian Gonzalez to record 5+ interceptions in regular season.

New York Jets Season Preview

Head Coach: Aaron Glenn.

Last season: 5-12.

The Aaron Rodgers era ends with a snapped Achilles and a season full of drama. One which ended in Bob Saleh being axed and Rodgers moving on to Pittsburgh.

What’s left is interesting.

Sauce Gardner is as good as we have at cornerback, whilst Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson are two young talents at tailback and receiver respectively.

The quarterback position remains an issue, Justin Fields gets the first crack, with evergreen veteran Tyrod Taylor ready to step in as back-up.

Glenn was a defensive master for the Lions, despite losing countless starters on that side of the ball. He’ll be hoping he can get this defence rolling, lean on Hall as a workhorse ball carrier and minimise the mistakes from Fields.

Projected Record: 6-11.

Best Bet: Breece Hall +5.5 rushing touchdowns in regular season.
