After a 20-week regular season and a multi-round Playoff series, only two NBL sides remain.

Melbourne United and the Tasmania JackJumpers have outlasted the other eight NBL franchises to book their date with destiny.

These two sides will now go head-to-head in a best of five series for the NBL Championship.

Melbourne United finished the regular season top of the pops and have been the team to beat all year.

This is Tassie’s second NBL Championship Finals appearance, despite only their third year of existence.

They will be hoping to upset the more heavily favoured United and claim their maiden NBL title at their second time of asking.

Melbourne United vs Tasmania JackJumpers Preview

Both of these sides needed three games to advance from their respective Playoffs to the Championship series.

Melbourne managed to see off a plucky Illawarra outfit, while Tasmania ambushed the Wildcats and their MVP Bryce Cotton.

It’s evident that both are prepared to go the distance and win by any means necessary. In their decider against Perth, Tassie’s latest superstar Jack McVeigh stood up when it really mattered, registering a season high 27-points to help his side clinch the series.

He’s definitely one to watch in the point scoring markets during this series, as is United point guard Shea Ili, who also cracked the 20-point mark in his side’s win over Illawarra.

If this series goes the distance, it’s United who will get the extra game at home due to their higher finish during the regular season.

This normally would tip things in their favour, but Tassie have proven to be road warriors and were the only away side to advance from the Playoffs.

For all their dominance this season, there have been chinks in Melbourne’s armour, that a team as capable as the JackJumper can exploit if their stars fire.

In fact, the most recent game these two sides played, it was Tassie who turned up the heat and recorded a comprehensive 107-86 win back in round 16 of the regular season.

The boys from across Bass Strait will have to defy history if they are to upset their more fancied opponents though.

In the past 10 years, eight teams entering the playoffs from either first or second have gone on to win the NBL Championship.

The Sydney Kings (2021-22) and the Perth Wildcats (2016-17) were the two to buck that trend, winning from third, where conveniently the JackJumpers finished the regular season.

There is a certain air of defiance about this JackJumpers outfit and having never tasted Championship glory before, we’re tipping them to be just that little bit more hungry than United and upset them over five thrilling matches.

Prediction: Tasmania JackJumpers in five.
