Margaret River Pro 2025 Preview

14/05/2025|SB Staff|Misc Tips & Predictions

The WSL returns to Western Australia for tour stop number seven this year. The Margaret River Pro serves as our final stop before the mid-season cut, which will see the men’s side of the draw cut from 35 to 22 and the women’s side cut from 18 to 10. That means that this is do-or-die for a bunch of fan favourites.

Margaret River Pro is always an interesting stop, as competitors usually run at Surfers Point, on the main break. However, there's also the opportunity to run at 'The Box', pending conditions.

These are very different waves, with the former being a powerful reef break offering open-face lefts & rights (primarily rights). Whilst the latter, The Box, is a thick, intimidating slab reef break; with a steep and high-risk take off that shoots surfers into a very shallow and powerful pit.

Which elite wave riders will be able to best conquer these two very different breaks and ride their way to the Margaret River Pro 2025 title?

For the latest Margaret River Pro forecast, predictions and fantasy picks, check out our Margaret River Pro 2025 preview below.

Margaret River Pro 2025 Forecast and Preview

During the pre-event window this week, we've seen medium-sized waves as a low shifts over the Southern Ocean, pushed south by a large high-pressure system positioned along the West Australian coastline.

The same system is predicted to maintain light offshore to side-shore winds throughout the week.

Saturday is the opening day of the Margaret Pro 2025 event window. However, we expect the low tide to dissipate by then, reducing the wave size slightly and bringing in a stiff morning land breeze.

The next system of interest, a broad, multi-staged system tracking further north is set to generate a sustained swell, with moderate gales and a long fetch.

This swell should arrive by Tuesday, building to a 6ft+ peak by Wednesday. Expect morning land breezes shifting to northerlies on both days.

With the uncertainty of this system, we expect that the organisers may opt to run the event across multiple half-days earlier in the event window, with conditions looking medium-sized and clean for mornings at Surfers Point.

Margaret River Pro 2025 Men’s Predictions

Jack Robinson

Expect local star Jack Robinson to be hungry to bounce back after a disappointing performance at Burleigh last start that sent him dropping out of the WSL top three.

He grew up with his house facing directly out at The Box surf break and was surfing this high-consequence wave from a startlingly young age.

Robinson also brings that local knowledge if they are to run at the main break too

Ethan Ewing

From one Aussie prodigy to another, Ethan Ewing also had a disappointing showing at Burleigh last week and should also be itching to solidify his position in the top-five rankings, before the back half of the season

His silky-smooth rail game will suit main break's walled-up faces excellently and he has the chops to perform at The Box if we see a day or two of competition there.

Jordy Smith

Surfing fans around the world have been really enjoying the resurgence of Jordy Smith, a resurgence we expect to continue at the 2025 Margaret River Pro.

Smith has been in excellent form this season and is currently ranked in 3rd place, with a rail game that also suits this location very well.

Also, he's backed by some strong historical performances at this break and has a serious claim for first place at this stop.

Margaret River Pro 2025 Men’s Predicted Winner: Jack Robinson.

Margaret River Pro 2025 Women’s Predictions

Gabriela Bryan

Our current rankings leader in the WSL Women’s bracket, Gabriela Bryan will be a threat at every stop on tour this year.

With a rail-game as powerful as they come and one that's well suited to this break, we expect her to continue her current momentum with a strong showing here.

Molly Picklum

Young Aussie hopeful Molly Picklum is carrying form from a solid showing at Burleigh and has all the skills required to perform well here.

If this edition of the Margaret River Pro runs at The Box, she should be a standout. If it runs at the main break, she also has all the tools necessary to excel there, such as her range of rail manoeuvres and strong, power surfing.

Bettylou Sakura Johnson

Bettylou will be riding the coattails of her debut tour win in Burleigh last week straight into the 2025 Margaret River Pro.

Similar to Picklum, she possesses the skillset to excel at any of the potential breaks for this event, whether that be heavy tubes or large open-face surfing.

Margaret River Pro 2025 Women’s Predicted Winner: Molly Picklum.

Margaret River Pro 2025 WSL Fantasy Picks

Men’s Picks

Tier A - Jack Robinson

Tier A - Ethan Ewing

Tier B - Jake Marshall

Tier B - Griffin Colapinto

Tier B - George Pittar

Tier B - Connor O'Leary

Tier C - Crosby Colapinto

Tier C - Ryan Callinan

Women’s Picks

Tier A - Molly Picklum

Tier B - Isabella Nichols

Tier B - Bettylou Sakura Johnson

Tier C - Brisa Hennessy

Margaret River Pro 2025 Dates and Details

Dates: May 17 – 27, 2025.

Location: Surfers Point, Prevelly, Western Australia.

Prizemoney: $80,000.

WSL Men’s Champion 2025 Odds
