Tigers vs Phillies

Aaron Nola has struggled to pitch deep into games recently, frequently exiting before completing six innings, and he now walks into Comerica Park against a Detroit side riding a four-game winning streak.

The Tigers open a three-game set with the Phillies on Friday night, and the visitors arrive off the back of a bruising 15-1 blowout defeat to Kansas City. Something has to give as two struggling starters take the mound.

  • Competition: MLB Regular Season
  • Venue: Comerica Park, Detroit, MI
  • Date: Friday, July 10, 2026
  • Start Time: 6:40 PM EDT (Friday) / 8:40 AM AEST (Saturday, July 11)

Tigers vs Phillies Form and Head to Head

The all-time regular season series is competitive, with both teams having won 27 games each in their 59 meetings, and this Friday marks the first meeting between the clubs in 2026.

Detroit come in hot, winners of their last four straight including back-to-back wins over the Athletics, though Bleacher Nation notes much of that run came against a weaker Oakland outfit.

The Phillies have been patchy, going 2-3 across their last five and coughing up that ugly 15-1 loss in Kansas City. On the ladder, Philadelphia hold the stronger record at 51-42 (2nd in the NL East, tied with Miami) against Detroit's 42-50, but the Tigers boast a solid 25-21 mark at home.

Two Rotations Running on Fumes

Neither starter inspires confidence. Nola has endured one of the worst stretches of his career, carrying a 5.87 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 19 home runs already surrendered across 92 innings.

Jack Flaherty counters with a 4.60 ERA and a losing 2-8 record, though his strikeout numbers tell a different story.

Detroit remain without Justin Verlander (hip inflammation) on the 15-day IL and Brant Hurter (lumbar spine inflammation) on the 60-day IL, both sidelined, while Javier Báez (ankle) is out.

The Phillies bullpen, meanwhile, has been stretched thin, with Lou Trivino out until July 22 and the relief corps taxed by the Royals series collapse.

Tigers vs Phillies Betting Markets

There's plenty to chew on here, from the head-to-head result to the run line and a range of player props.

With both starters carrying ERAs near or above five, the total attracts attention, though Comerica's 412-foot distance to center field keeps the deepest part of the park in play.

Flaherty's strikeout market stands out given his elite whiff rate. Head to our MLB odds page for the latest prices across the full range of markets for this one.

For punters eyeing the props, Flaherty's strikeout line is the standout angle. He has piled up 92 strikeouts in just 76.1 innings this season, a K/9 hovering around 10.8 that comfortably outpaces Nola's rate of 9.2 across 92 frames.

Tigers vs Phillies Prediction: Our Pick

The Tigers look well placed to keep their winning run going at home, and Flaherty shapes as strong value on the strikeouts overs.

Detroit's 25-21 home record and four-game surge line up nicely against a Nola who cannot get through six innings, piling pressure on a Phillies bullpen already running on empty.

The one caveat is that Philadelphia are the better side by record and the Tigers' hot streak came partly against softer opposition. On the prop, Flaherty's 10.8 K/9 against an inconsistent Phillies lineup makes the overs appealing, though his control wobbles could cut his outing short before the number lands
