Giro d’Italia Betting Preview

The 2025 edition of the Giro d’Italia got underway on May 9th, with its first stage in Albania.

The riders have since weaved their way through the south of Italy, taking in stages in Lecce and Naples, before they start the tough climb to the mountainous north of the country.

They’ll then circle downwards to the Vatican City, before the race comes to its conclusion in Rome on June 1st.

There’s still plenty of action to come then, with the mountainous stages likely to define the General Classification once more. So who will be crowned king of the hill?

Giro d’Italia Betting Odds

Hovering near the top of the General Classification standings is Primoz Roglic, a five-time Grand Tour champion who prevailed in the Giro d’Italia of 2023.

The Slovenian boasts outstanding pedigree and has got off to an excellent start in Italy, so looks worthy of his short $1.61 odds.

Juan Ayuso was crowned best young rider at the 2023 Vuelta a Espana, finishing third and fourth in his home race. He’s $3.50 to frank that form in Italy.

Another prominent name in the betting is Michael Storer, whose victory in the Tour of the Alps in April confirms his fondness for mountainous conditions. He can be backed at $10.00.

Giro d’Italia Best Bets

Roglic is the class act in this Giro d’Italia field, and given that he sits in second place after six stages of the race, he clearly has to be respected.

Seven of the remaining stages are classified as mountainous, which is roughly half the race time left, so clearly the best climbers are going to have something of an edge over the days to come.

There is surely scope then to expect Storer to vault up the leaderboard. The Australian showcased his love of the mountains when winning the Tour of the Alps – hosted largely in Italy – earlier this year back him each way with three places paid.

Take a speculative interest in Richard Carapaz to be crowned King of the Mountains. The Ecuadorian won the Mountains Classification at the 2024 Tour de France and 2022 Vuelta a Espana, as well as claiming the outright title at the 2019 Giro d’Italia.

He’s $18.00 for that particular title (each way, three places paid), and Carapaz can also be backed at $1.82 for a top-ten finish in the General Classification.

But, in all reality, Roglic is the man to beat. He’s the best in the field and, barring disaster, will surely prove it on the road to Rome.
