Highest Paid Australian Athletes in 2025

11/12/2025|SB Staff|Other Sports News

Our Aussie sporting stars are our national heroes — and they deserve the big bucks for performing and doing their thing.

Whether it’s on the pitch, the field, in the pool, or on the track, it’s rare to see a top-flight competition without an Australian in the mix. Not bad for a country “down under” with a population of only around 24 million!

Of all the amazing Australian athletes performing at home in our domestic codes — or doing their thing on the world stage — have you ever stopped and thought: who might be Australia’s highest-earning athlete of the year?

Well, worry no more, because we at Sportsbet have compiled a list of the highest-paid Aussie athletes for 2025.

Who’s topping the Aussie Sportspersons rich list? Let’s have a look.

Note: All estimated figures are based on available information, Currency in AUD.

10. Jason Day - $5.6 million

The former world number one is still active on the PGA Tour and maintaining his presence in the golfing world. He might not be contending for many majors anymore, but he’s still bringing in a decent amount of coin just by strolling through the fairways.

9. Cameron Smith - $7.3 million

Cameron controversially swapped from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf, lured by cash, and became the highest-ranked player to make the move. The switch has clearly paid off — in 2025 he has reportedly taken home around $7.3 million.

8. Liam Hendriks - $ 7.56 million

He’s the relief pitcher flying the Australian flag in Major League Baseball. And, the 36-year-old from Perth is earning a fair keep for yeeting a few baseballs when the main guy needs a rest.

He featured in 14 games for the Red Sox this season and earned 10 runs across the season.

7. Marc Leishman - $14.28 million

Another high-profile Aussie golfer who switched to LIV. Although LIV contract details remain murky, the publicly estimated winnings for 2025 — and what we know of Leishman’s deal — suggest he earned around A$14.28 million this year.

6. Matisse Thybulle - $18 million

Despite a left thumb injury, keeping the rose-gold medal-winning Boomer on the sidelines, ‘Aussie Tisse’ has still brought home a hefty payday, such is the NBA and the value of their contracts.

The guard will be hoping to shrug off his injuries in 2026 and repay the faith shown by the Portland Trail Blazers, after being restricted to only a limited amount of games.

5. Josh Green - $21 million

The world of the NBA has been good to our Australians (you’ll see what I mean), and Josh Green is one of those ones benefiting from being really, really good at what he does.

The Hornets' shooting guard not only hits the boards and net consistently with honorary Australian La’Melo Ball, but takes home a nice payday for being one of the most bankable guys on the team.

4. Jordan Mailata - $33 million

The boy from Bankstown became the toast of Philadelphia.

He was already one of Australia’s top-earning athletes ever since he became a regular in the NFL, but that (not so) little bonus that he would have collected after winning the Super Bowl.

He continues to fly the flag for all the Aussies playing in the NFL.

3. Oscar Piastri - $37.5 million

He might not have brought home the coveted World Championship crown, but 2025 wasn’t all bad for Oscar Piastri. In fact, his steep rise in performances has seen the Melburnian rise to the podium as one of Australia’s highest-paid athletes.

Even after bonuses have been factored in, it’s an eye-watering figure that has even seen him jump into the top five earners of all F1 drivers this season.

=1. Dyson Daniels - $38 million

It’s a tie at the top between two of our best current hoops men doing it week in, week out in the NBA.

The Hawks’ playmaker has become the toast of Atlanta with his defensive skills and playmaking ability, earning him a max contract.

=1. Josh Giddey - $38 million

The max contract was always going to be just a matter of time for Josh Giddey once he hit his consistent level in the NBA. When the Bulls came knocking with it, it propelled Giddey to the top of the list of Australian sportspeople's earners.

And thus far, he’s earning every cent of that deal.
