Up & Coming Stakes 2023 Racing Tips

25/08/2023|SB Staff|Horse Racing Tips

The aptly named Up And Coming Stakes, since it was first run in 1979, has quickly developed a tradition of launching the careers of some of Australia’s modern horse racing stars.

Past Up And Coming Stakes winners include champions Fastnet Rock, Snitzel, Exceed And Excel, Testa Rossa, Mahogany, Star Watch, Sir Dapper and Marscay.

The Up And Coming Stakes, run over 1300 metres at Rosehill Gardens, is a Group 3 race for three-year-olds run under quality handicap conditions, with a minimum weight of 54kg. The Up And Comings Stakes 2023 carries prize money of $250,000.

Trainer James Cummings has elected the top-weight Tom Kitten (59.kg), to represent the stable after having other options. Importantly, Nash Rawiller is an interesting booking to ride the big Tom cat and he should have him perfectly placed from barrier three.

Top trainer Chris Waller also has a strong hand in the Up And Coming Stakes tips with the colt Caballus and the filly Tutta La Vita. Jockey James McDonald got a little lost in the pack when Caballus was a luckless third over the Rosehill 1300m on August 12. He will have a fitness edge on a lot of his rivals, but the racing tip is that Waller expects big things from Tutta La Vita, who will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy from barrier five.

You won’t have to go searching for an Up And Coming Stakes tip from trainer Gai Waterhouse (now working in partnership with Adrian Bott). The “Queen” of Australian racing, like her father Tommy Smith before her, is a racing tip machine. There will be plenty of punters happy to take a bite at Les Vampires at some value odds in betting markets.

Big boy Café Millenium looked a superstar when he burst on the scene in the summer, but he didn’t train on as well as trainer John O’Shea would have liked. Kintyre is probably underrated by punters but not in the mind of trainer Gary Portelli, and there has been a spruik around for the filly Hasty Honey, who has sneaked into the field with Jay Ford in the saddle.

The Leading Up And Coming Stakes Racing Tips 2023

Tom Kitten: Giant of a colt who showed tremendous talent in the autumn to win the Fernhill Stakes (1600m) at Randwick before finishing fourth in the G1 Champagne Stakes (1600m). He’ll be purring behind the leaders.

Tutta La Vita: Trainer Chris Waller was enamored with this filly when she campaigned in May and June, winning at this track (1400m) before he turned her out. She has returned with some residual fitness, and she was given a soft trial at Randwick on August 15. She might be value for those looking at the San Domenico Stakes tips.

Caballus: Jockey James McDonald needs to redeem himself with punters who backed Callabus when he finished third behind Kintyre over this course on August 12. Callabus blew the start, and McDonald then found himself looking at behinds for most of the race.

Café Millenium: Left racing fans agape when he stormed home to win the Pierro on debut at Randwick in February, but he was too raw and immature to sustain his form after that.
