Leading trainer Chris Waller will use the 1200m Group 3 Toy Show Quality to test the future spring program for his star mare Zougotcha. Waller told the media that despite Zougotcha winning the 1600m Flight Stakes last year, he’s yet to be convinced that she is not better suited to be trained as a pure sprinter.

The $250,000 Toy Show Quality is restricted to fillies and mares, three-years-old and older, but no fillies have been accepted to run this year.

Waller has a financial motive for Zougotcha to be dominant in the Silver Shadow Stakes which is the possibility of his mare getting an invitation to run for $20m in The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14. The other option is the $10m Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill on November 3.

There’s not another mare in the Toy Show Quality tips being discussed as a contender for The Everest.

If there is a threat to Waller’s plans, it comes from the James Cummings-trained Parisal, who has trialled impressively of late and Queen Of The Ball, trained by Michael Freedman, who worked her way into the Toy Show Quality tips after she headed champion sprinter Nature Strip in a trial at Rosehill on August 11. Interestingly, Zougotcha (barrier 11) and Parisal (10) have drawn awkward wide barriers, but Queen Of The Ball is perfectly placed in barrier 3.

If fitness is an advantage over class, Melbourne mare Mileva comes into calculations after her eye-catching second behind Sigh in the Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on July 8. It was a big-finishing performance that had most racing tip analysts marking her as a horse to follow. Barrier 12 won’t worry her, as she likes to get back and rush home.

An interesting mare being discussed in the Toy Show Quality tips of many is How’s The Serenity. A former Perth multiple Stakes winner who is now in the Hawkes family stable. Two recent trials were encouraging for a mare known for her jump-and-run speed, and barrier two will see her get a gun run.

The Top Toy Show Quality Tips

Zougotcha: She’s the class factor of this race, having won three legs of the Princess Series last spring, including an easy win in the Silver Shadow Stakes on this day. Trainer Chris Waller is testing her sprinting talents for a possible run in The Everest, and James McDonald has taken the rider. That’s a big tick for a Toy Show Quality tip.

Parisal: Trainer James Cummings rates this mare very highly. She hasn’t raced since she chased home Magic Time in the PJ Bell Stakes at Randwick in April, on heavy ground. Before that she showed she can handle firm tracks and she’s a solid racing tip to win first-up from a break. Jean Van Overmeire will ride her.

Queen Of The Ball: She missed most of the autumn, but she has bounced back brilliantly if recent trials are any indication. Trainer Michael Freedman has her primed for a big first-up run from a good barrier.

Mileva: For those chasing some value, the Melbourne mare, trained by Phillip Stokes, stormed home for second behind Sigh in the Sir John Monash Stakes at Caulfield early in July. She’s good enough to be in your Toy Show Quality tips.
