Show County Quality Racing Tips 2023

The Show County Quality, a 1200m race for sheer speedsters, is hardly an event where a search into the history books would find a Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup hero. However, that’s what happened in 1997 when the great, and aptly named Might And Power won the Show County Quality on his way to winning the Cups double later that spring. Don’t expect to find the 2023 Melbourne Cup winner in any Show County Quality tips. Not that the Show County Quality field isn’t a race of, um, quality. There is a plethora of smart sprinters in this year’s 1200m race, which carries a purse of $250,000.

The fit and in-form Dragonstone is the horse that hits the mark as most likely to be in everyone’s Show County Quality tips, not only because he’s racing well, but he will be fitter than most of his rivals after competing through the winter for trainer Joe Pride.

For those who like to include the proven class runners in their Show County Quality tips, at the top of the weights is the star mare Zougotcha and the up-and-comer Buenos Noches, who is resuming from a winter break. Note: Zougotcha is also engaged in the Toy Show Quality in which she has drawn very wide.

Anyone looking beyond those horses will get some value for their money with horses the calibre of Ucalledit, Argentia and Kalino with the talent to be Show County Quality winners.

The Top Show County Quality Tips 2023

Dragonstone: In five starts for trainer Joe Pride, Dragonstone has had four placings and a fifth. At his most recent start he ran on strongly for second behind the smart I Am Me in the G2 Missile Stakes, 1200m, at Rosehill on August 5. He deserves a win, and he deserves to be at the top of the Show County Quality Tips. Barrier one is a perfect draw for her.

Zougotcha: Trainer Chris Waller likes to cover his bases, which is why he accepted with Zougotcha in both the feature sprints, the Show County Quality and the Toy Show Quality, the latter for fillies and mares, but in which she has drawn barrier 18. It is worth taking the racing tip that Waller will prefer barrier seven against the “boys'' when he works out which race suits her best. Either way, she will be the one to beat.

Buenos Noches: The Matthew Smith-trained speedster is a genuine Group 1-class horse with placings behind superstars Giga Kick and In Secret in his short career. Those horses would dominate the Show County Quality Tips, so don’t discard this fellow if you are looking for a flutter.
