Run To The Rose Tips 2023

The Group 2 Run To The Rose, as its name suggests, is part of a “Rose” series of races run at Rosehill Gardens leading into the $1 million Golden Rose, at Rosehill in Sydney, on September 23.

The $300,000 The Run To The Rose, run over 1200m, follows the Listed The Rosebud (1100m), run on August 12.

Interestingly, this year none of horses who ran in The Rosebud – won by the filly Tiz Invincible – are lining up in the Run To The Rose.

The key race for this year’s Run To The Rose will be the G3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Randwick two weeks ago. Some of the leading Run To The Rose tips ran in the San Domenico Stakes, which was won by Libertad, who beat Moravia and Butch Cassidy. Others to use the San Domenico Stakes as the lead-up race include General Salute (fourth) and Kandinsky Abstract (sixth).

Historically, the Run To The Rose has been won by a horse of the highest level. Last year’s winner was the star filly In Secret and her sensational stablemate Anamoe won it in 2021. Rothfire (2020), Astern (2016), Pierro (2012), Smart Missile (2011) and Mentality (2006) are other outstanding horses to win the Run To The Rose.

Trainer James Cummings has won the past two Run To The Roses for his Godolphin stable, and the best racing tip is that he plays a serious hand again with his best colt, Cylinder, who will be ridden by Nash Rawiller in the absence of the injured James McDonald.

Surprisingly, Chris Waller doesn’t have a Run To The Rose on his extensive CV and, as usual, he’s got numbers on his side with four starters. His leading Run To The Rose tips are likely to be Militarize and Kandinsky Abstract.

The leading The Run To The Rose Tips 2023

Cylinder: New jockey Nash Rawiller should be able to box seat on this exciting colt from barrier four. Although Cylinder looked burly when he won the G3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 19, it was his class and will-to-win that got him over the line. Expect him to be fitter and he’s the top the Run To The Rose tip.

Libertad: It’s hard to knock his form – three starts for three wins, including an impressive victory first-up in the G3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on August 26. When Chad Schofield gave him a gun ride from a wide draw. From barrier 3, Schofield can follow Cylinder (4), and there will be plenty willing to make him their outstanding the Run To The Rose tip.

Militarize: Emerged as a star of the autumn when he won the Group 1 double, the Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and the Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick. He dominated his rivals once he got beyond 1200m, but the racing tip is that he’s returned to racing this spring more race savvy and sharper. Never deny class.

General Salute: This colt is underrated. There was a lot to like about his fourth in the San Domenico Stakes, when he got going late. Barrier 10 is awkward in a hot race, but he’s got the talent to cause an upset.
