<p>The Group 1 Might And Power Stakes, run over 2000m at Caulfield, is the premier middle-distance, weight-for-age race during the Caulfield Cup Carnival during the Spring Racing Carnival.&nbsp;</p> <p>The Might And Power Stakes, formerly the Caulfield Stakes, is named after the champion Might And Power who won the race in 1998 before his dynamic win two weeks later in the Cox Plate. Might And Power is one of 17 horses to complete the famous double.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Last year’s Might And Power Stakes was won by Deny Knowledge, ridden by Mark Zahra for trainers Anthony And Sam Freedman.</p> <p>Trainer Ciaron Maher has announced that Light Infantry Man will remain in Sydney to run at Rosehill, and be scratched from the Might And Power Stakes. With the prospect of a firm track, expect the bias towards fast horses on the inside to have an advantage. Monitor the racing patterns earlier in the day<strong>.</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3>The Trainers</h3> <p><strong>Matt Laurie, t</strong>rainer of the favourite Treasurethe Moment, is aiming to win his first Might And Power Stakes with his first starter in the race<strong>.</strong></p> <p>With a likely small field of only four horses ( Note: Light Infantry Man will race in Sydney), represented by three trainers, Laurie is joined by the team of <strong>Mick Price</strong> and <strong>Michael Kent Jnr</strong> (Hezashocka &amp; Globe), who also are chasing their first win in the race.</p> <p><strong>Chris Waller </strong>(Buckaroo), with 183 Group 1 wins to his name, won with Winx in 2016.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3><strong>The Jockeys</strong></h3> <p>Of the current jockeys, <strong>Mark Zahra</strong> has the best record in the Might And Power Stakes with three wins, including last year on Deny Knowledge. Zahra doesn’t have a ride this year.</p> <p><strong>Damian Lane</strong> rides the favourite Treasurethe Moment. Lane has 43 Group 1 wins, including six in Japan, but this will be his first Might And Power Stakes. Nine of Lane’s 20 Victorian Group 1 wins have been at Caulfield.</p> <p><strong>James McDonald – </strong>120 Group 1 wins – rides second favourite Buckaroo. McDonald won on Anamoe in 2022 and then partnered him to win the Cox Plate. Only six of McDonald’s Victorian Group 1 wins have been at Caulfield.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Blake Shinn </strong>(Globe)<strong> </strong>and <strong>Jamie Melham </strong>(Hezashocka) are chasing their first Might And Power Stakes win. For Melham, it will be a historic first for a female jockey.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3>The Speed Map</h3> <p><strong>Tempo </strong>prediction: Moderate.</p> <p>With the announcement that<strong> Light Infantry Man </strong>will run in the Alan Brown Stakes at Rosehill in Sydney, only four horses will go to the line. One of those, <strong>Globe</strong>, is a known leader. Because he is untried over 2000m, and he can get fierce if allowed to run, jockey Blake Shinn will likely hold him up before letting him run from the 700m.&nbsp;</p> <p>From barrier one, the favourite <strong>Treasurethe Moment,</strong> should get the gun run behind the pace. It will be a lot easier chasing Globe than Pride Of Jenni at Moonee Valley. Buckaroo will likely go forward to cover Treasurethe Moment. It will make for an intriguing tactical affair between Buckaroo’s rider James McDonald and Damian Lane on Treasurethe Moment.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3><strong>Point of Interest</strong></h3> <p>Mighty mares have the power: <strong>Treasurethe Moment </strong>is aiming to be the fifth mare to win the Might And Power Stakes in the past five years. She suffered a setback with colic that cost her a run in the Makybe Diva Stakes, and then she had to chase the runalong Pride Of Jenni in the G2 Feehan Stakes (1600m) at the Valley. He has been good when placed in the Memsie Stakes and G1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) when he fully tested Sir Delius. He is the threat to Treasurethe Moment.
