Each day will feature seven races, with Day 1 headlined by the Champion Hurdle. However, there's plenty of value to be had across all races, due to the exceptional horses involved, each of whom is a champion; hence the day is known as Champions Day.
Races are scheduled as follows:
- Supreme Novices' Hurdle (00:20 AEDT)
- Arkle Chase (01:00 AEDT)
- Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (01:40 AEDT)
- Ultima Handicap Chase (02:20 AEDT)
- Champion Hurdle (03:00 AEDT)
- TrustATrader Festival Plate Handicap (03:40 AEDT)
- National Hunt Chase (04:20 AEDT)

Betting Preview
With the Champion Hurdle (03:00 AEDT, Wednesday) being the feature race, it's worth previewing it. It is a Grade 1 contest run over 2m½f. It features some of the greatest hurdlers, although this year's race won't feature Constitution Hill.
Last year's runner, Golden Ace, will be involved, having upset all the odds last year and ending a streak of five consecutive years in which the favourite won.
The New Lion is considered this year's favourite, with Lossiemouth just behind in the betting. Golden Ace has shorter odds than last year, but remains a slight underdog.
The Supreme Novices' Hurdle is another big race for punters, with it being the opening race of the festival. It is also a Grade 1 contest run over 2m½f, and features the iconic "Cheltenham roar" once the race gets underway.
Old Park Star is the early favourite, with Talk The Talk and Mighty Park among the contenders.
Betting Markets to Watch
When it comes to horse race betting, each-way bets are always worth exploring for value, especially when racing over jumps. Too many variables in each race amplify the risk that is associated with winners. If you're new to the sport, our horse racing betting guide can help you understand the basics.
We think The New Lion is worth an each-way bet to win, as he enters the race in good form. However, he did dismount his rider in the race before last. Still, when he finishes, it's typically first past the post. Golden Ace offers value with three places being paid for each-way bets, having finished first or second in his races.
In the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, an each-way bet on Old Park Star offers value. He has won each of his last three races, while Talk The Talk has fallen recently. It's likely too big of a race for Mighty Park, who has just one run (win) before.
Our Prediction

Our top pick is to go with an each-way bet on New Lion to win the Champion Hurdle. Our long shot is Golden Ace in the each-way, as he has all the potential to produce a solid run once again.
