Breeders' Cup Classic 2026 Prediction and Odds

The 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships take place at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday, 31 October, and Sunday, 1 November.
The meeting features 14 Grade 1 championship races, with defending champion Forever Young headlining the AU$10 million Breeders’ Cup Classic against Sovereignty and a strong group of challengers.
A purse of that size puts the Classic among the richest races in the world. Keeneland is hosting for the fourth time, having previously staged the meeting in 2015, 2020 and 2022.
Quick Picks
Our pick: Forever Young to win
Value bet: Golden Tempo each-way
Long shot: The Puma each-way
Betting Preview
The Breeders’ Cup is an international, end-of-season championship meeting rather than a single race.
Its programme separates horses by age, sex, distance and preferred surface, allowing elite sprinters, milers and middle-distance runners to compete in their own divisions on turf or dirt.
Five races for two-year-olds make up Future Stars Friday, followed by nine championships for horses aged three and older the following day.
The five for Saturday are as follows (times AEDT):
- Juvenile Turf Sprint - Turf - 5.5 furlongs (04:55)
- Juvenile Fillies - Dirt - 1 mile 0.5 furlongs (05:35)
- Juvenile Fillies Turf - Turf - 1 mile (06:15)
- Juvenile - Dirt - 1 mile 0.5 furlongs (06:55)
- Juvenile Turf - Turf - 1 mile (07:35)
With these cards running through the early hours AEDT, Australian punters will want to sort out how to watch live horse racing before the first jumps so the overnight action is not missed.
The races on Sunday are as follows:
- Filly & Mare Sprint - Dirt - 7 furlongs (03:10)
- Turf Sprint - Turf - 5.5 furlongs (03:48)
- Dirt Mile - Dirt - 1 mile (04:26)
- Filly & Mare Turf - Turf - 1 mile 1.5 furlongs (05:04)
- Sprint - Dirt - 6 furlongs (05:42)
- Mile - Turf - 1 mile (06:20)
- Distaff - Dirt - 1 mile 1 furlong (06:58)
- Turf - Turf - 1 mile 4 furlongs (07:36)
- Classic - 1 mile 2 furlongs (08:16)
The Classic is the feature race of the event.
Betting Markets to Watch
Focusing on the feature race, the betting odds for the Classic have yet to be published, but Forever Young is one many have picked out as the horse to beat.
The five-year-old won last year's race by ½ length and is aiming to be the only horse to go back-to-back in this race.
He’s going to face stern competition this year, including the Godolphin-owned Sovereignty. He missed last week's race as a scratch but is in good form.
Sovereignty is the reigning Horse of the Year, and has added this season’s Whitney to his major victories. Bill Mott’s runner also won the Kentucky Derby, Belmont and Travers in 2025.
With Forever Young chasing a rare back-to-back Classic and Sovereignty the reigning Horse of the Year, it is worth seeing how such runners might one day feature among the greatest racehorses of all time.
Golden Tempo is an interesting entry; the 3-year-old could offer value if he can replicate the form he has already shown. He is this year’s Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner.
He’s a strong-finishing runner who came from well back to win the Kentucky Derby, then won the Belmont despite a more moderate early pace. Both victories came over the Classic’s 1¼-mile distance.
Our Prediction
Check the latest Horse Racing betting odds at Sportsbet.
Our prediction is for Forever Young to be the likely winner, with our value pick on Golden Tempo in the each-way.
A long shot is The Puma. The Gustavo Delgado trained horse arrives after a career-best victory in the Pennsylvania Derby and has raced only seven times.
An each-way looks safer, as this is a step up in quality and distance. If you are new to the each-way market, our guide on how horse racing bets work breaks down how the place portion pays out.
