The year's second major is already upon us, with the best golfers descending on the greens of Valhalla Golf Club.

Teeing off on May 16th, the world’s best golfers are reaching their best form as they come to Louisville in a bid to claim the coveted title.

There are also several Australians looking to build on a strong showing at the Master’s and contend for the title, but do any of them have a legitimate chance at adding their name to the honour roll of Aussies to win a major?

PGA Championships – The Contenders

Scottie Scheffler

He’s the raging favourite heading into the tournament, which isn't surprising considering that he’s the best golfer in the world at the moment by so far it actually doesn’t matter.

Coming off a big win at the Masters last month, he is in red-hot form.

The 27-year-old two-time major winner is a heavy favourite and chasing his first win at this event after being in a tie for second last year.

Rory McIlroy

The veteran is still one of the biggest names in the golfing world.

Despite a disappointing showing at the Masters and the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town, he is still one of the favourites at a course he has saluted at twice.

He is still yet to finish in the top 10 at an event this year. They say form is temporary & class is permanent, but I’d be looking at the pattern and form line here.

Bryson DeChambeau

After parting ways with his smelly socks after missing a put at the LIV event in Australia last week, DeChambeau has maintained his consistency despite finishing in a big chaser pack at the Grange.

In arguably the best form of his career, finishing in a tie for sixth last month and Augusta and making a deep run to finish in a three-way tie for fourth here last year, he is pushing to add to his one career major title.

John Rahm

The Spaniard bounced back after misfiring at his Masters' defence at Augusta earlier this month to shoot -16 in a tie for third at last week's LIV event in Adelaide.

Seen as the best value pick heading into this major though the Valhalla is not a happy hunting ground for Rham, with a best finish of a tie for fourth back in 2018 from six appearances.

Brooks Koepka

Last year’s champion returns to the Valhalla full of confidence he can repeat the deed despite a mixed bag of results at both Augusta at the Masters and Grange at LIV’s Adelaide event.

He’s saluted in this event three times before and knows the course back to front. He’s everyone’s favourite villain in golf but he’s hard to bet against here.

PGA Championships – Aussies in Action

Cameron Smith

The man with the mullet will again lead the Aussie charge at Valhalla and Cameron Smith is brimming with confidence after impressive showings at both Augusta and Grange.

Smith finished In a tie for ninth last year and remains Australia’s best chance come May 16th.

Min Woo Lee

The rising star of Australian golf is never short of confidence and wants to put on a show.

He returns to Valhalla for only the second time, looking to build on his tie for 14th finish last year.

Cameron Davis

Another Aussie star on the rise, Davis will be looking to improve on his impressive T4 finish last year as he continues to make waves around the golfing world.

The Sydney native competes like he has nothing to lose with that classic Aussie spirit, making him a local worth cheering for,

Jason Day

The former world number one is on his way back once again from a back injury and is looking to string together some back-to-back tournaments after a wretched run.

It’s been nearly a decade since he won this event, can he repeat the events of 2015 and walk off the course a winner?
