Hungarian GP Prediction and Betting Odds

Hungary GP

Formula One moves to Budapest this weekend and to the Hungaroring, as the world’s best drivers take on the Hungarian GP.

Kimi Antonelli got back to winning ways last weekend, and will be aiming to achieve the same when the lights go out on Sunday, July 26, at 23:00 AEST. But will he succeed again after brilliance in Belgium?

Quick Picks

Our pick: Antonelli to win

Value bet: Leclerc to win/each-way

Long shot: Russell in the each-way

Betting Preview

Antonelli ended his three-race streak without a win at Spa-Francorchamps and did so in impressive circumstances, winning the race by almost two seconds over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who has started to find his rhythm in the famous car. For Antonelli, it meant winning for the sixth time in 10 races this season.

It was a race for Antonelli’s Mercedes team-mate to forget, however. George Russell crashed out on the first lap following an incident with the other Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton.

The Hungaroring is tight, twisty and pretty short on overtaking chances, so track position and clean execution matter more than raw straight-line speed.

Turn 1 is the main realistic passing zone, but even there overtaking is usually hard unless a car gets a strong exit onto the 908-metre start-finish straight.

The overall winner of this race is likely to be one of those at the front of the grid following qualifying, with Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull all having the components needed to mount a challenge at this track.

Betting Markets to Watch

Given his form and the profile that Mercedes have regarding their car, Antonelli is considered the favourite to win. He returned to winning ways last weekend and appears to have found his rhythm once again with a super solid drive in Belgium.

Success here, though, could come down to whether he and the car have qualifying pace locked down. If they do and he gets pole, it would be hard to see him give it up unless something disastrous happened on race day.

There is potentially better value in the each-way for this race, given that who ends up on pole will be the likely winner due to the track layout.

The Ferrari tandem are considered to be Antonelli’s main challengers, with Leclerc arguably offering better value than Hamilton. Leclerc has been driving well, and could even win this race if his Ferrari is up to pace in qualifying.

Our Prediction

Our prediction is for Antonelli to be the likely winner of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix. We think he has the best car at the moment that is ideal for the Hungaroring track and is in good form.

Should he have the pace over qualifying and obtain pole, it’ll be hard to see him lose it in the main race.

Our long shot here is George Russell. The Brit continues to have problems with his Mercedes car, and after a disappointing Belgium GP, he would need to put in the performance of his life.

Unfortunately, it’ll likely depend on whether his car can remain reliable for the race.
