Canadian Grand Prix

After a weekend without Formula 1, it’s Bienvenue a Montreal for the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix.

The previous race, in Spain, was a McLaren 1-2 and it sure looks as if that could be the pattern for the rest of the season.

McLaren have won 7 of the 9 races so far – Oscar Piastri has won 5 and Lando Norris 2 – with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen the other winner.

From a wagering standpoint as far as Outright Betting goes, it’s pretty much come down to whether you think Oscar or Lando will take the chequered flag.

Oscar fans will point to his 5 wins, his head-to-head victories over Norris and his red-hot race pace coming out of Spain.

Lando fans will counter with the fact that he finished 2nd here last year, and won in Melbourne, a track somewhat similar to the layout of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

Interestingly, like the Spanish Grand Prix, Verstappen has won the last 3 Montreal races, but it will take something special – or a McLaren mistake – for him to make it 4 in a row.

Mad Max is also coming off a frustrating race where he was penalised for deliberately crashing into George Russell, something he later apologised for.

Aston Martin’s hometown hero Lance Stroll does plan to race after skipping Spain because of a wrist injury.

Canadian Grand Prix Betting Tips

Best Bet

Oscar Piastri $2.50 (Outright Betting)

Two weeks ago, I had these the two drivers flip-flopped, thinking that Norris was due to re-establish himself against his McLaren teammate with a second consecutive win. But Piastri was too good again and won his 5th Grand Prix of the season by more than 2 seconds over Norris.

Next Best

Lando Norris $2.60 (Outright Betting)

At the risk of repeating myself again, it just makes sense to focus on Piastri or Norris in these Outright markets. Neither driver has torn up the Montreal circuit – Piastri 5th and 11th in his two races here – and although Lando did finish 2nd last year in the rain, his previous finishes were 13th and 15th.

Value Bet

George Russell $3.00 (Podium Finish)

Russell finished 3rd here last year and arguably could have won the rain-affected affair. There’s no precipitation expected this weekend, but the lower downforce track and slightly cooler temperatures could help the Mercedes’ cause.

Piastri Bet

1st Oscar Piastri/2nd Lando Norris $4.33 (Exacta)

This bet hit at the Spanish Grand Prix and as mentioned, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that a McLaren 1-2 is on the cards again this weekend. A reminder, you do get slightly better odds ($4.50 as of publishing) for a 1st Lando Norris/2nd Oscar Piastri Exacta, so if you’re a Lando fan, that’s an option.
