British GP F1 2025 Event Guide: All You Need To Know
Silverstone was first used as a race track in 1926. However, the first Formula 1 Grand Prix (F1 GP) to be held there was in 1950. It is the oldest race on the Formula One World Championship calendar, with it being one of only two (Italy) to have been included in each season since the inaugural year of the motorsport.
Drivers race 306.198 km (190.263 miles), with 52 laps each being 5.891 km (3.66 miles). Silverstone is widely regarded as a challenging and technical circuit, testing the skills of the best drivers.
It is famous for its high-speed layout, with sweeping corners like Maggotts, Becketts and Copse demanding exceptional control and bravery. It also features slower, more technical corners such as Village and The Loop, which require careful modulation of speed and precise exits to maximise lap time.
Lewis Hamilton has been the most successful driver in F1 history at the circuit, having won the race nine times. He was the winner in 2024, as he recorded a finishing time of 1:22:27.059. That was +1.465 seconds quicker than Max Verstappen, with Lando Norris finishing third. George Russell had started the race in pole, but had to retire after 33 laps.
British F1 GP 2025: Betting Predictions
Sportsbet has published the latest F1 British GP betting odds following the race in Austria, and last weekend’s winner leads the winner’s market. Lando Norris is the favourite, ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri and rival Verstappen. Hamilton’s ongoing troubles in the Ferrari appear to be impacting his chances of making it a 10th win at the circuit.
Norris certainly appears to be a good choice. Aside from his 18th-placed finish at the Canadian GP, he has managed to finish inside the top four in every other race. He has three victories so far, with five second-placed finishes.
If there is anything that may be off-putting, it might be that Norris has never won at Silverstone. He did finish second in 2023, placing behind Verstappen in that race. His teammate Piastri is yet to win at the British GP either, having finished fourth in both editions he has driven in.
