Most of the Formula 1 hype this week has been centred around Hollywood, with the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt grabbing plenty of the limelight.
But there is action on the track with the 2025 edition of the Austrian Grand Prix, which is a home race for Max Verstappen at the Red Bull Ring.
Max has won this race 4 times, most recently in 2023.
George Russell – winner two weeks ago in Canada – won here last year, with Oscar Piastri second and Carlos Sainz third, after Verstappen and Lando Norris crashed into each other on Lap 64.
Speaking of Lando, this has been an important track for him over the years.
He got his first podium here in 2020 and backed that up in 2021. His 4th place finish in 2023 helped jump start McLaren’s strong second half of the season and, as mentioned, the crash last year took away another potential podium.
Norris comes into the Austrian Grand Prix trailing teammate Oscar Piastri by 22 points in the Drivers Championship and he can’t afford to fall further behind.
Austrian Grand Prix Betting Tips
Best Bet
McLaren $1.55 (Team of Winning Driver)
With hot weather expected over the weekend in Spielberg, McLaren should have the edge, especially on Mercedes. That brings us back to one of our original bets, one which provides a little more value now after Russell’s win last time out.
Next Best
Lando Norris $3.25 (Outright Betting)
Each week seems to be a tossup between Piastri and Norris and as I’ve mentioned many times, sometimes it’s a gut feel rather than a fact-based wager. Norris has performed well at this track and is in dire need of a win to keep pace with his Aussie teammate.
Value Bet
George Russell/Lando Norris/Oscar Piastri $6.50 (Boxed Trifecta)
George Russell has been one of the surprise packets of 2025, with 5 podiums including the win in Canada. After the McLarens, it looks like a battle between Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Russell and given the form of the Mercedes driver, this bet might be worth a look. If you rate Max on Red Bull’s home track, that Boxed Trifecta is paying $2.80.
Piastri Bet
Oscar Piastri $2.60 (Outright Betting)
After a frustrating Canadian Grand Prix, Piastri will be salivating at the thought of a fast, short circuit. As important as this race is for Norris, it’s also an opportunity for Piastri to cement his spot at the top of the Driver standings as we start a 7-race European summer.
