-Australia’s Oscar Piastri has extended his Formula 1 championship lead to 34 points after a dominant Dutch Grand Prix victory

-Title rival Lando Norris suffered a devastating retirement with eight laps remaining, losing crucial championship points

-Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar claims maiden F1 podium finish in dramatic Zandvoort race

Australian Formula 1 star Oscar Piastri delivered a masterclass performance at Zandvoort, winning the Dutch Grand Prix while championship rival Lando Norris retired late in the race.

In a big weekend of racing for the Aussie, Piastri claimed his maiden F1 “Grand Slam”. A feat claimed by leading from pole position from start to finish, leading every lap, and setting the fastest lap time in the race.

Piastri Dominates Dutch Grand Prix from Start to Finish

Oscar Piastri showcased exceptional racecraft at the Dutch Grand Prix, leading from the opening lap to secure his seventh Formula 1 victory of 2025. The McLaren driver controlled the race throughout, managing three safety car periods while maintaining his position at the front of the field.

The Australians' flawless performance came at a crucial moment in the championship battle. With Norris challenging for the win, mechanical failure struck the British driver's McLaren with just eight laps remaining, smoke billowing from his car as his championship hopes took a significant blow.

"I felt in control from lap one and used the pace when I needed to, but sorry for Lando," Piastri said post-race. "There's a long way to go, so we'll keep going, one race at a time."

The victory marks Piastri's ninth career Formula 1 win, equalling the tally achieved by his manager and former Red Bull driver Mark Webber. More significantly, it extends his drivers' championship lead to a season-high 34 points with nine rounds remaining.

Championship Battle Takes Dramatic Turn

Norris started the race from second position and initially lost ground to Max Verstappen at the start. However, the McLaren driver quickly regained second place and began mounting pressure on his teammate Piastri. The intense battle between the McLaren drivers looked set to continue until the final lap before mechanical failure ended Norris's race.

The retirement proved particularly painful for Norris, who was seen sitting with his head in his hands beside the Zandvoort circuit as the championship implications became clear.

"It is frustrating. It hurts to lose 25 points outright," Norris told Sky Sports. "I just have to keep fighting, keep doing what I can. I was quick today, I thought I could fight for a win."

Verstappen and Hadjar Complete Podium

Max Verstappen secured second place for Red Bull, providing some consolation for the Dutch fans at his home circuit. The three-time world champion managed to stay within striking distance of Piastri during the final safety car restart but couldn't mount a serious challenge for victory.

Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar delivered the surprise of the race, claiming his maiden Formula 1 podium with third place. The French driver qualified fourth and impressively maintained his position throughout the race before benefiting from Norris's retirement.

"This was the target since I was a kid, this is the first step, and hopefully more to come," Hadjar said after his breakthrough result.

The Dutch Grand Prix also featured multiple retirements, with both Ferrari drivers failing to finish the race. Lewis Hamilton crashed at turn three on lap 23, while Charles Leclerc was eliminated in a collision with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli at the same corner.

With the Italian Grand Prix approaching next Sunday at Monza, Piastri holds a commanding championship position, though nine races remain for Norris to mount his comeback challenge.
