Erling Haaland remains the overwhelming favourite off the back of a quieter return of two goals. Early sample size and full-season pricing rarely tell the same story, and this year's race is already proving it. Erling Haaland Still Sets the Premier League Golden Boot Market

Manchester City enter this season without Pep Guardiola for the first time since 2015/16. He stepped down at the end of last season and handed over to Enzo Maresca on a three-year deal, while Rodri left for Barcelona and long-serving names John Stones and Bernardo Silva departed on expiring contracts. The new era began with a 3-0 Community Shield loss to Arsenal.

None of that has touched Haaland's price. His two goals from City's opening pair of league wins, including a comfortable 4-1 away win at Crystal Palace, is a quiet return by his own standards, but the market has barely blinked.

He has won three of the last four Golden Boots, missing out only in 2024/25 when Mohamed Salah scored 29 during Liverpool's title-winning season.

Only Salah and Thierry Henry have won it more times, on four apiece. A striker with that record keeps setting the market on reputation as much as on round-two form. It's the kind of longevity that puts him in the conversation among football's greatest ever goalscorers.

The Each-Way Case: Joao Pedro and Alexander Isak

Behind Haaland, the market has already reshaped itself around a Chelsea forward with something to prove. Joao Pedro was left out of Brazil's World Cup squad in the middle of a season that produced 20 goals across all competitions and a Player of the Season award at Stamford Bridge.

He carried that snub straight into pre-season, scoring seven times across five friendlies, then opened the new campaign with two goals in two under new head coach Xabi Alonso. He now sits second favourite, clear of the next name in the market.

That next name is Alexander Isak, and his story runs the other way. His British-record £125 million move from Newcastle turned into a nightmare debut season. A fractured fibula and ankle surgery in December wiped out the middle of his year, and he didn't return to training until April.

He's fit now, with a goal already from his first two matches, and the each-way market, which pays four places at a quarter of the odds, is where he's worth backing rather than the outright.

Liverpool's other senior striking option, Hugo Ekitike, ruptured his Achilles in April and isn't expected back for the best part of a year, which leaves Isak as Liverpool's senior recognised number nine with the minutes to make the most of it.

Igor Thiago and the Season's Slow Starters

Last season's genuine surprise sits in the next tier of the market without a goal to his name yet. Igor Thiago scored 22 Premier League goals for Brentford in 2025/26, finished runner-up in the actual Golden Boot race behind Haaland, and earned his first Brazil call-up on the back of it.

He reportedly drew interest from Arsenal and Manchester United over the summer, but stayed at Brentford regardless. Two rounds without a goal isn't a reason to write him off at this price. It's close to the same slow start that preceded his best form last year.
