Manchester United vs Tottenham Prediction and Betting Odds

It’s safe to say it’s been a stuttering start to the English Premier League season for Manchester United and Tottenham.
In the 10 games these two have played between them so far, there’s only been one win between them (Manchester United’s victory over Ipswich), with Spurs bottom of the table.
So, is this one a must-win for both sides? We think so. But which club is likely to be happiest after the match, which kicks off on Sunday, October 11, at 2.30am (AEST)?
Quick Picks
Our pick: Man United to win
Value bet: BTTS
Long shot: Bryan Mbeumo to score or assist
Betting Preview
Let’s face it, Robert De Zerbi’s Tottenham side have been shocking so far this season.
Despite splashing the cash in the summer on Sandro Tonali, Savio, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, the club have no wins in five games and only two points (both 0-0 draws against Everton and Nottingham Forest).
And prior to their 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa in their last league match, Tottenham hadn’t even scored a goal.
Pretty miserable reading for the Tottenham fans out there, right?
But things don’t get particularly better for Manchester United fans.
Despite what some would see as a pretty favourable opening five games, apart from a real tester against rivals Manchester City, United have only picked up one win, tasted defeat against Hull, and sit 12th in the league (just two points off the bottom three).
Draws against Everton and Fulham were pierced by a particularly painful 1-0 defeat to Man City, who were down to 10 men for much of the game, and a 3-2 defeat to Brighton in the Carabao Cup after being 2-0 up.
So, both Manchester United and Tottenham are going to want to inject a bit of urgency into their respective seasons.
Betting Markets to Watch
Manchester United have been made favourites to win this encounter, perhaps due to being at home and also a few other factors such as ranking first for the number of shots this season (113) and fourth for expected goals. We expect them to take all three points here.
However, it’s not likely they will have it all their own way. Despite beating them at Old Trafford 2-0 in the league last season, they hadn’t won any of the eight previous meetings between the clubs in league and cup games (three draws, five defeats).
Tottenham definitely looked tighter at the back and could have arguably got more from their draws against Everton and Forest. Plus, they finally managed to find the back of the net twice against Villa.
Manchester United, meanwhile, have found the back of the net eight times so far this season (albeit five of those were against Ipswich), the same amount as Arsenal (who currently sit second).
So goals could definitely be the order of the day here. If you think both leaky defences could have a torrid time, then it wouldn’t be a massive shock to see over 3.5 goals in this match.
However, caution is advised. That market has only hit on one of United’s games so far this season, and one of Tottenham’s.
The over 2.5 goals market could be the one to go for, an option which has landed in three of the last five Premier League meetings between the clubs.
As for who is going to score those goals, well United have threats from multiple positions. While Bruno Fernandes hasn’t been in the sparkling form he was last season, this could be the game in which he comes to life.
But Bryan Mbeumo to score or assist has history behind it. He already has two goals this season and loves playing Tottenham. He’s scored six times and assisted once in his last six Premier League matches against them.

We think a Manchester United win is the most likely outcome, and there are likely to be goals.
The over 2.5 goals market could be most likely, hitting in the last cup game United played in, and the last league game Tottenham played. Keep an eye on Mbeumo to score at least one of those.
