California-born Garcia racked up a 23-0 record before running into the excellent Gervonta Davis, who showcased all his talent in a one-sided victory in April 2023.

He then embarked on a bizarre year or so in which he was banned after a negative drugs test, having ‘beaten’ Devin Haney before the result was overturned, and then suffered a defeat to the unfancied Rolando Romero.

Garcia was somewhere back to his best next time out, though, easily defeating Mario Barrios on points to claim the WBC title.

As for Benn, he’s been up and down the weights – and has had his own doping suspension (although lifted in November 2024 with charges not proven).

His pair of fights with Chris Eubank saw him weigh in as high as 165lb, before his last outing against Regis Prograis was held at a catchweight of 150lb.

This will be his first welterweight clash in four and a half years, describing making the weight one of the hardest things he’s ever done.
