Australian Open Predictions 2025 – Women’s Draw

10/01/2025|SB Staff|Australian Open 2025 Tips & Predictions

We’re less than a week away from the latest edition of the Australian Open and after analysing the men’s bracket it’s time to turn our attention to the women’s draw.

Since the retirement of Serena Williams, women’s tennis has become largely unpredictable. Last year on tour saw three different ladies take out the four major titles, instead of one simply sweeping the field.

That being said, form lines are slowly starting to be established at the top of the women’s game, particularly Down Under.

The only female player to win multiple majors last year was Aryna Sabalenka. The first of her two Grand Slam triumphs in 2024 came at the Aus Open, her second consecutive triumph at Melbourne Park.

Can she complete the three-peat and become the first female player since Martina Hingis to pull off an Aus Open hat-trick?

Who are the leading contenders to stop her? Is all resistance futile? Let’s find out. Our Australian Open Predictions 2025 for the women’s draw are below.

Australian Open Women’s Predictions 2025 – The Favourites

Aryna Sabalenka

After all that, you won’t be surprised to find that Aryna Sabalenka is the current favourite to lift the 2025 Aus Open trophy.

Her preparation for another title tilt could hardly be better, as she just took out the Brisbane International.

The only thing really working against Sabalenka is the fact that she’s on a hat-trick. History has proven the AO three-peat is no easy task. Not even the great Serena Williams, who has the most Aus Open women’s titles in the Open Era, achieved the feat.

You have to wind the clock back 26 years to find the last time someone lifted the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup three times in a row, when Martina Hingis did it.

Can Sabalenka match the Swiss superstar? Logic says yes, history says no.

Coco Gauff

Off the back of making the semi-finals of the Aus Open last year, American sensation Coco Gauff is one of the two favourites (along with Sabalenka) to feature in the big dance at Melbourne Park.

It’s sometimes easy to forget that Gauff is still only 20. After debuting at just 15 years of age, and with a Grand Slam trophy (the 2023 US Open) already under her belt, the Atlanta native presents the rare and deadly combination of being an experienced youth.

She might not be able to buy beer in her homeland, but she certainly is capable of winning the 2025 Australian Open. Levels.

Iga Swiatek

Pressing her case as the modern Queen of Clay, World no.2 Iga Swiatek will try and translate her dominance at the French Open over to the hardcourts of the Australian Open.

She’s won the last three titles at Roland Garros but is yet to make it past the final four at Melbourne Park.

Armed with a devastating power game, Swiatek will no doubt be Iga to blast her way to a maiden Aus Open crown.

Elena Rybakina

Rounding out the favourites in the ladies’ bracket is 2023 finalist Elena Rybakina. She won Wimbledon in 2022 proving she has what it takes to get it done on the biggest stage.

A hyper-aggressive baseliner, Rybakina will be looking to reignite her explosive rivalry with world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka, preferably in the final, at Melbourne Park.

Australian Open Women’s Predictions 2025 – Under the Radar Options

Qinwen Zheng

Last year’s fallen finalist Qinwen Zheng is the first of our somewhat slept-on candidates for the 2025 Ladies Australian Open crown.

She enters 2025 on the back of winning an Olympic Gold Medal, becoming the first Asian tennis player, male or female, to do so. Can she make more history later this month in Melbourne? Watch this space.

Naomi Osaka

Yes, Naomi Osaka’s stocks have dwindled somewhat in recent years, but it seems foolish to rule out a previous two-time Aus Open winner who is still only 27.

Osaka reigned supreme at Melbourne Park in both 2019 and 2021 and will be looking to do so again in 2025.

Emma Raducanu

While Emma Raducanu seems destined to be a one-hit wonder, every time another major rolls around, we along with most of the tennis-viewing public seem to always get sucked back into the hype machine. The 2025 Australian Open is no exception.

That image of an 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first qualifier in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam title at the 2021 US Open burnt into our mind, we can’t help but dare to dream.

Australian Open 2025 Dates and Details

Dates: Sunday, January 12 – Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Arena: Melbourne Park.

Prizemoney: Approximately $86 million AUD.

Looking for more information regarding the Australian Open 2025?
