Australian Open Men’s Final Preview: Sinner vs Zverev

25/01/2025|SB Staff|Australian Open 2025 Tips & Predictions

Then there were two. Both Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev have progressed to the Australian Open Men’s Final, after walking two very different paths to the showpiece event.

Sinner overcame sickness, homegrown heroes and overachieving Americans to set up his shot at a second straight AO crown, while Zverev, who blasted his way to the final four, then received a walkover, courtesy of the greatest player to ever pick up a racquet – Novak Djokovic.

Now the two European superstars are on a collision course with a Grand Slam title and a nearly $3 million prize packet on the line.

Can Sinner defend his crown and tighten his grasp on the title of “best player on the planet?”

Or will Zverev finally break his duck and lift his first ever Major trophy? Let’s find out.

For the latest betting tips, odds, and analysis for the 2025 Australian Open Men’s Final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev check out our preview below.

Jannik Sinner (1) vs Alexander Zverev (2) Preview

On paper, this was the matchup that was always meant to be. In terms of rankings, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev represent the two best players in men’s tennis.

While they are side by side in terms of rankings, they are worlds apart stylistically. Zverev is power personified, while for Sinner, the longer the rally, the better.

When these two clash on Sunday night look to Zverev to push the envelope with his monstrous service game and to try and keep the rallies as short as possible.

His best shot at winning this match is to stop Sinner getting into his rhythm and exercising his superior agility and court coverage.

That is easier said than done however, and young Jannik is a master of dragging his opponents into baseline battles and wearing out their legs.

Whose style will shine through and ultimately etch its purveyor into the annals of Australian Open history? Let’s take a closer look at how this match will end up in terms of the result.

Australian Open Men’s Final Betting Tips

Match Betting

When examining the H2H odds for this clash, it comes as no surprise to see that defending AO champ Sinner is the healthy favourite.

Aside, from a short bout of illness, Sinner has rarely been troubled at Melbourne Park so far this summer.

His loft seed did grant him an easy run, but still you can only eat what’s on your plate and young Jannik has feasted thus far with aplomb.

If he thought his run to the final was easy, he should talk to his opponent here. Zverev was essentially gifted his finals berth after Djokovic decided to delete megastar Carlos Alcaraz in the Quarters, only to retire one set into his Semi against Zverev.

That means Alex will definitely be the fresher of the two and he’s going to need as much extra juice in the legs as possible if he wants to go the distance with Sinner.

Frankly, we can’t see him matching it with the world No.1, who appears to be operating on a completely different plane to the rest of the racquet wielding world at the moment. Sinner to go back-to-back.

Betting tip: Jannik Sinner.

Set Betting

Neither of these players have been forced to play five sets yet at the 2025 Australian Open.

We can’t see that changing here. We like the look of Sinner in four. Zverev is far too capable to be swept here.

He should be able to blast his way to a set with his power game, perhaps even the first. After that though, we are anticipating Sinner to do what he does best and turn the screws to set himself up for another AO triumph.

Betting tip: Sinner – 3-1.

Total Match Games (39.5)

The over/under for total match games for the 2025 Australian Open Men’s Final has been set at 39.5.

If our prediction of Sinner in four comes to fruition, it’s more likely than not that this total will not be eclipsed.

Betting tip: Under total match games.

Where to Watch the Sinner vs Zverev Australian Open Final?

For those in Australia, you can watch the 2025 Men’s Australian Open Final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev on the Nine Network.

Available on both free-to-air on Channel 9, and 9Gem, you can also watch the match online on 9Now.

Alternatively, you can stream the Men’s AO Final on streaming service Stan Sport.

What Time is the Australian Open 2025 Men’s Final?

Start time: 7:30pm AEDT.

Date: Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Location: Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park.

Where to watch: Channel 9, 9Now, 9Gem, Stan Sport.
