Western Bulldogs vs Sydney Swans Prediction - Round 7

22/04/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

The Sydney Swans sit on top of the AFL ladder as we enter Round 7, they’ll be hosted by an injury ravaged Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.

The Dogs are testing their depth as they aim to recapture their early season winning form against these competition heavyweights.

The major story coming out of the Bulldogs’ 131-56 loss to the Cats last Friday was the ACL injury to star key forward Sam Darcy, who is now set to miss the rest of the season.

The Dogs will also be missing Tom Liberatore (concussion) and James O’Donnell (hamstring), while Marcus Bontempelli and Rory Lobb are in doubt.

The 2026 Season has taken a turn for the Dogs, who were on top of the AFL ladder just a fortnight ago. Since then, they’ve tasted back-to-back losses against Hawthorn and Geelong.

The Swans enter Round 7 in good form, having won five matches from their past six starts this season.

Last week Nick Blakey overshadowed the start-studded Sydney lineup to claim the Kirk-Ward medal as Best on Ground against

This matchup is clearly favouring Sydney from afar, but anything can happen in footy and the Dogs won their last clash in Round 16 last year.

Whether Bont plays or not in this one will go a long way to deciding who will be victorious.

Western Bulldogs vs Sydney Swans Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

In the space of a fortnight, the Western Bulldogs have fallen from premiership favourites to utter devastation.

Sam Darcy is gone for 2026, James O’Donnell will miss time, as will Rory Lobb and Tom Liberatore. But you only need to look at Brisbane’s premiership wins to realise you need to overcome missing soldiers because injuries happen at the worst times.

Sydney arrive at Marvel Stadium full of steam and full of life, currently sitting in first position on the AFL ladder.

Brodie Grundy is chasing Max Gawn for that ruck All-Australian blazer, while Justin McInerney has improved out of sight.

The Swans defence is intact for now and they’ve got the best attack in the league so far in 2026.

We still wish to hold our ground on declaring the Swans as genuine threats. Here, though, they might steamroll the Dogs, who could still be feeling the effects of losing Darcy for the season and others for the short term.

Head-to-head prediction: Sydney Swans by 23 points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

Charlie Curnow is getting better every week at the Swans. His combinations with the likes of Tom Papley, James Jordan and Isaac Heeney have Curnow consistently finding the ball in space.

With Amartey taking a lot of the heat from opposition defence, Curnow has ample opportunity to score throughout the match.

We expect Curnow to kick the opener and finish with a haul of goals in this one.

Betting tip: Charlie Curnow.

Most Disposals Prediction

Nick Blakey stole the show last week against GWS with 34 disposals and winning the Brownlow vote for Swans in Round 6. We're backing him again to have a huge impact alongside bigger names like Heeney.

Blakey's ability to drive the ball from defence and create for his midfielders, makes him the prime candidate to lead the stats sheet here.

Betting tip: Nick Blakey.
