Saturday nights at Marvel Stadium have a way of sorting things out quickly. For Richmond, that's become a familiar kind of dread.

The Tigers have lost each of their last 11 away matches at the venue and nothing on their current form sheet suggests Round 20 will be any different.

The Bulldogs have done exactly what they needed to do over the past month. They went to Metricon, absorbed everything the Suns threw at them and grinded out a 77-68 win on Sunday to move 12 points clear of 11th place with five matches remaining.

A win here will close to secure the Dogs in Wildcard footy at least. 

Marcus Bontempelli continues to be the best player in the competition and the Tigers will be having nightmares after what he did to them last season. 

Bont posted 36 disposals, three goals in a 135-56 rout of Richmond when the two clubs clashed in 2025.

Richmond's situation is genuinely dire. They’ve fallen to last place on the ladder after the hapless Bombers managed to secure a win and coach Adam Yze is under pressure to hold onto the top spot. 

Tigers need results sooner rather than later as their rebuild comes to a standstill. 

But they’ll be unlikely to secure the points here against Bont’s Bulldogs.

We arrive at Round 19 with an old grievance getting another airing. The Dogs went to Gold Coast and did themselves a solid. 

Despite an awful percentage and an awful overall profile, they win the games they need to and keep themselves ahead of those chasing from beneath the Wildcard seedings.
