It’s a Sunday afternoon under the lid with the Western Bulldogs hosting Richmond.

The Dogs, still considered one of the teams capable of winning the flag this year, remain on the outside looking in at the top eight, but here they have an incredible opportunity to not only jump in but also gain some more percentage with them.

Their win over the Saints last week marked their fourth victory by 70 points or more this season, and they will be licking their lips as they arrive at Marvel to face the lowly Tigers.

Richmond, coming off the bye, has shown plenty and, in some ways, exceeded expectations so far in the second year under Adem Yze during this first year of their rebuild. With a record of 3-10, the signs are promising. One of them is that they can hit the ground running, just as they did in Round One this year when they shocked the footy world.

Can they do it again against the highly fancied Dogs? Stranger things have happened, so it’s definitely not beyond the realms of possibility!

From a selection standpoint, it’s a very tough Dogs team to break into at the moment. With no injuries or forced changes required from the side that did ‘that’ to the Saints, Luke Beveridge may not see fit to make any changes. Regular forward James Harmes could be available should he pass through concussion protocols, but that appears to be the only main selection dilemma at the Kennel this week.

As for the Tigers, they are fresh off a bye but are unlikely to get any relief on the injury front. Veteran defender Jayden Short needs another week, and number one pick Sam Lalor isn’t ready to come back just yet.

The most significant selection news for the Tigers is likely in the VFL this week, with prodigious draftee Taj Hotton set to play his first minutes as a Tiger after joining the club with a pre-existing ACL injury.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Dogs vs Tigers prediction and preview below.

Western Bulldogs vs Richmond Predicted Teams

Western Bulldogs Predicted Team List

B: Luke Cleary, James O’Donnell, Bailey Williams

HB: Lachie Bramble, Rory Lobb, Bailey Dale

C: Sam Davidson, Ed Richards, Joel Freijah

HF: Ryley Sanders, Aaron Naughton, Matt Kennedy

F: Laitham Vandermeer, Sam Darcy, Rhylee West

Foll: Tim English, Marcus Bontempelli, Tom Liberatore

Int: Josh Dolan, Buku Khamis, Lachie McNeil, Adam Treloar, Cooper Hynes

Richmond Predicted Team List

B: Nathan Broad, Noah Balta, Nick Vlastuin

HB: Sam Banks, Ben Miller, Tom Brown

C: Hugo Ralphsmith, Dion Prestia, Jack Ross

HF: Tyler Sonsie, Jonty Faull, Seth Campbell

F: Rhyan Mansell, Tom Lynch, Steely Green

Foll: Toby Nankervis, Tim Taranto, Jacob Hopper

Int: Kaleb Smith, Kane McAuliffe, Tom Sims, Luke Trainor, Kamdyn McIntosh

Western Bulldogs vs Richmond Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Bulldogs have won four of the past five against the Tigers and have dominated the recent head-to-heads, winning seven of the past 10 matches.

The last time these teams played, the Dog came away with a 91-point win. And having already shown their hand that they can go big and win big, that spells danger for the young Tigers cubs.

While the Tigers snapped a 12-game losing streak at Marvel the last time they were there earlier in the season, it hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for them in recent times.

The real question and interesting point heading into this one is how the Dogs will manage their unicorn Sam Darcy in what will be his second game back from a layoff? Ditto superstar skipper Marcus Bontempelli, they look like they will jostle it out to see who could be subbed off for a rest when the game is well and truly safe.

We’re picking the Dogs here at home. The only question is by how much.

Betting tip: Dogs.

First Goal Prediction

Sam Darcy will have Noah Balta for company this week. It’s a good matchup, but it’s also a matchup that we think he will win comfortably.

3.2 on return last week matched up on Callum Wilkie, who is an All-Australian defender, coming up against a younger Richmond team who might not be able to stop the supply against the quality Dogs midfield. We’re tipping him for the first one of the day.

Betting tip: Sam Darcy.

Most Disposals Prediction

It’s going to be a race among the Dogs' midfielders and halfbacks to see who can hit the 30 disposal marker first this week.

Our pick might be seen as a popular one, but it’s hard to ignore the form of superstar Dog Ed Richards at the moment. He’s shooting for higher honours at the end of the year and leading the charge in the engine room for the Dogs.

Betting tip: Ed Richards 30+ disposals.

Western Bulldogs vs Richmond Tigers Match Details

Date: Sunday, June 22, 2025.

First Bounce: 3:20pm AEST.

Location: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne.

How to watch: Channel 7, Fox Footy/Kayo Sports.
