West Coast Eagles vs Sydney Swans Prediction - Round 4 2026

02/04/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

Suddenly revitalised under Andrew McQualter and their crop of top-tier young guns, the West Coast Eagles will be out to stun the competition and notch a third consecutive victory when they host the Sydney Swans at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

Number one draft picks Harley Reid and Willem Duursma were box office during Sunday’s 92-90 comeback victory over the Power in Adelaide, with 41 disposals and three goals between them, while Jake Waterman booted four majors himself.

Predicted to again be among the competition’s bottom sides after a horror 2025 which saw them win only one game, the Eagles now present a genuine challenge for a Sydney outfit fresh off the bye.

The Eagles have already won two matches this year, a massive turnaround from the worst winning record in the club's history last season.

The Swans will be eager to respond after letting a fourth-quarter lead slip against Hawthorn in Round 2, conceding five of the final six goals.

It’s no secret that Sydney has dominated recent battles with West Coast, as have every club.

The Swans have won the last five matches against West Coast by an average margin of 83 points.

But this is a new West Coast Eagles, at home, on Saturday night.

After scalping Port Adelaide and North Melbourne, can the underdog Eagles take out the competition heavyweights Sydney Swans?

West Coast Eagles vs Sydney Swans Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The West Coast Eagles were our pre-season pick for wooden spoon winners. As things stand, they’re more likely to win a play-in position rather than a spoon having won the past two on the spin.

We’ve always been keen on the young tall players on the Eagles list, but how can you not be impressed with No. 1 picks, Reid and Duursma, as well as Josh Lindsay and former Lion, Deven Robertson?

The Swans arrive off the bye with a need to get back into the winner’s list after falling to Hawthorn the last time we saw them.

More is needed from Chad Warner and Tommy Papley should play a more prominent role around the ball with Errol Gulden absent for a while.

While the Eagles are flying high, they run into well-rested competition heavyweights in the Swans.

If West Coast win this, we’ll get real excited, but ultimately, you’d expect Sydney’s class to shine through over four quarters.

Head-to-head prediction: Sydney Swans by 23 points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

With the spotlight on Sydney’s star-studded midfield, it’s the perfect opportunity for Charlie Curnow to assert his dominance in the forward half.

Sydney seems to suit Curnow, the goal-kicking machine looks more and more comfortable in every match for the Swans this year.

The Sydney forward will be hungry to feast on an Eagles defence that, while improving, can still be vulnerable to elite key forwards.

Expect the Swans to look for Curnow early to set the tone and silence the parochial Optus Stadium crowd.

Betting tip: Charlie Curnow.

Most Disposals Prediction

Callum Mills will have to be heavily involved in this one to feed Curnow the Sherrin.

The 28-year-old skipper is at the peak of his powers and, with Errol Gulden sidelined, we expect him to shoulder even more of the load in the engine room.

Whether he's sweeping across half-back or hunting the leather in the middle, Mills' work rate and elite ball-winning ability make him a strong contender to top the stats sheet.

We’re expecting the Swans skipper to lead from the front in this contest.

Betting tip: Callum Mills.
