West Coast Eagles vs Carlton Blues Prediction - Round 14 2025

It’s another Sunday night footy session in the West, with the West Coast Eagles hosting the Blues to finish off Round 14.

Yes, Carlton is playing West Coast again for the second time in nine weeks. It’s a quirk of the fixture… and if you’re a neutral fan, I suggest you don’t look at who Carlton is scheduled to play next week either—it might send you spare.

The Eagles were painfully close to securing their second win of the season last week in Bunbury against the Roos. Unfortunately, they kicked themselves out of the contest, registering a paltry 6.16 on the scoreboard.

It didn’t matter that they lost the disposal count convincingly, were belted at clearances and uncontested possessions, and achieved just 39.7% disposal efficiency inside 50; they had the chances to win the game and couldn’t get it done.

No doubt it would have been frustrating for new coach Andrew McQualter, still searching for his second win as a full-time coach, But will use that to drive the group on the turnaround to the return game against the Blues. A game they will see as extremely winnable given Carlton’s patchy form.

They fell over the line against the Bombers at the MCG on Kings Birthday Eve, largely thanks to a strong opening 40 minutes of footy; they weren’t much chop for the rest of it. But, thanks to having just that little bit more experience on the park than their opposition, they managed to come away with the much-needed four points.

At 5-7 and sitting in 11th place on the ladder, all is not lost for the Blues, even if it may seem a million miles away on the field at the moment. As mentioned above, a favorable fixture in the next fortnight allows them to regain their footing. Then we really find out what these Blues are made of and what the actual way forward for them is—not just for this season, but beyond, with key decisions to be made.

For this week, though, they just need to get the job done out west. It’s a task that seems easy on the surface, but Carlton has made an art form of making things exceptionally hard for themselves.

On the selection front, mid-season draftee Tom McCarthy is firming for a debut. He would have debuted last week but was absent. Youngster Bo Allan will either need a stint in the WAFL or will start at AFL level after playing minimal game time as a starting sub in recent weeks. Premiership defender Tom Cole will be assessed after experiencing hamstring soreness mid-week during training. Small forward Matt Owies will miss the clash against his former side, still sidelined with a calf injury.

The Blues are relatively healthy at the moment—a novelty and luxury given recent times at Ikon Park—and they escaped the Essendon game with a clean bill of health. Harry McKay was a late withdrawal for the Essendon clash and will be tested, but he is unlikely to make the trip west. This means young ruckman Hudson O’Keefe will back up from his impressive debut performance. Father-son recruit Ben Camporeale is closing in on a senior debut after another strong game in the VFL, while Corey Durdin was the AFL emergency last week and could come in after fellow small forward Will White was demoted to starting sub and was quiet when he entered the game.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Eagles vs Blues prediction and preview below.

West Coast vs Carlton Predicted Teams

West Coast Predicted Team List

B: Reuben Ginbey, Harry Edwards, Tom Cole

HB: Liam Duggan, Sandy Brock, Liam Baker

C: Jayden Hunt, Harley Reid, Jack Hutchinson

HF: Jack Graham, Archer Reid, Jamie Cripps

F: Elijah Hewett, Oscar Allen, Liam Ryan

Foll: Matt Flynn, Brady Hough, Tim Kelly

Int: Tom McCarthy, Tyler Brockman, Ryan Maric, Bo Allan, Jack Williams

Carlton Predicted Team List

B: Nick Haynes, Jacob Weitering, Mitch McGovern

HB: Adam Saad, Jack Silvagni, Sam Docherty

C: Ollie Hollands, Patrick Cripps, Blake Acres

HF: Lachie Fogarty, Charlie Curnow, Alex Cincotta

F: Jesse Motlop, Hudson O’Keefe, Zac Williams

Foll: Tom De Koning, Adam Cerra, Sam Walsh

Int: George Hewett, Matt Carroll, Corey Durdin, Orazio Fantasia, Cooper Lord

West Coast vs Carlton Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Blues have not only beaten West Coast in their past five head-to-head meetings, they have absolutely pulverized them.

Under Michael Voss, the Blues have won every game against the Eagles by an average of 76 points.

That points to this game heading only one way really, but these Eagles are an improved outfit over the past five weeks in particular.

They rank seventh for shots at goal (Blues are 13th) and fifth for chaining to score (Blues are 15th). They’re definitely attacking more and enjoying seeing a different look in the midfield.

Veteran Tim Kelly went back in there last week to try to arrest some of the massive differential against the Roos and will have another big job this week against Cripps, Walsh, Hewett, Cerra, and Co.

Defender Harry Edwards will have his hands full again with Charlie who has feasted on the Eagles, with 21 goals from his past three games against the Eagles.

The Blues took the opportunity against the Eagles to get their season going and gain some percentage to boot with it. Here’s the same opportunity on a silver platter to mount their charge home.

Betting tip: Eagles

First Goal Prediction

It’s a shame Matt Owies isn’t fit to play against his old side at his new home ground. Would have been an amazing scene had he dobbed the first one and pulled out a pointed celebration with his new fans.

Instead, we’re going with his fellow small forward Jamie Cripps. Like most of his teammates, missed out last week in Bunbury, but is always good for at least one or two goals a game. Especially against Carlton where he’s kicked one goal in each of the last five games.

This time, we think it’s just going to be the first one of the game.

Betting tip: Jamie Cripps

Most Disposals Prediction

Since his return to the halfback line after a stint in the 2s, Sam Docherty is back playing something resembling his best footy.

Back to his natural role as a rebounding and intercepting defensive general, there might be life in the old veteran just yet. We’re tipping him to have another strong performance against the Eagles.

Betting tip: Sam Docherty 30+ disposals

West Coast Eagles vs Carlton Blues Match Details

Date: Sunday, June 14, 2025

First Bounce: 6:10 PM, AEST

Location: Optus Stadium, Perth

How to watch: Fox Footy/ Kayo Sports
