Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants Prediction - Round 6 2026

15/04/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

Entering Round 6 atop the AFL ladder, Sydney will look to maintain its dominant start to the season with a win over fierce rival GWS at the SCG on Friday night.

The Swans continued their strong form during Gather Round, defeating Gold Coast 100-68 at Norwood Oval in a game they never trailed. Isaac Heeney starred again with 33 disposals, two goals, 11 tackles, and 10 clearances.

Meanwhile, GWS found some form off its Round 4 bye with a 131-75 win over Richmond at Barossa Park on Sunday.

Finn Callaghan led the way with 37 disposals, while key forward Aaron Cadman kicked four goals before suffering a head knock that will sideline him this week.

Sydney has won five of the past six meetings between these rivals, although the Giants did claim the most recent of those, stunningly overturning a 35-point second-quarter deficit to win 102-58 in Round 20, 2025.

This local derby promises to be another high-octane chapter in one of the league's most bitter rivalries.

Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

We saw the Swans live at Norwood Oval last weekend against strong opposition and they were simply exceptional.

They are playing fast, sharp and deliberate football in both attack and defence. Their contest method was superior and all their top-tier players were heavily involved.

Heeney was comfortably best-on-ground, McInerney continued his blistering start to the year, and Tom Papley played a massive part in the scoring.

GWS finally got some key bodies back and dominated a Richmond team that is currently searching for answers.

The likes of Daniels, Greene, Callaghan and Stringer, operating more as a midfielder all looked elite.

While GWS is gaining reinforcements, they’ve been hit by the concussion bug this week and will miss Cadman and Coniglio.

The Swans have historically been the dominant side in this inter-Sydney contest and we think their balanced class across the ground will be too much for the Giants to handle at the SCG.

Head-to-head prediction: Sydney Swans by 13 points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

Tom Papley remains one of the most dangerous small forwards in the competition and thrives on the energy of a local derby.

Coming off a strong performance against the Suns where he booted three majors, Papley’s ability to find space in a crowded forward line makes him the prime candidate to open the account for the Swans Friday night.

Expect Paps to scrap for possession early and convert it to six points and ignite the Sydney fans.

Betting tip: Tom Papley.

Most Disposals Prediction

Isaac Heeney is right at the top of the game, currently sitting third in the Brownlow odds behind Daicos and Bont. He’s been on fire this season both creating opportunities and seizing them himself in 2026.

But Clayton Oliver would have to be our shout for this one, he’s currently averaging 31 disposals per game and has gotten as high as 37 against Collingwood in Round 3.

His tendency to hunt the Sherrin in every contest makes him a constant on-ball threat.

Heeney might have more impact on the scoreboard, but Clayton Oliver is a good chance for most disposals in this one.

Betting tip: Brodie Grundy.
