St Kilda Saints vs North Melbourne Kangaroos - Round 21 2025
31/07/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions
Have you come down from cloud nine yet, Saints fans?

Have you finished erecting your shrines and statues of the greatest player of all time, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera?

And have you spent the week diving into your own personal savings and donating it all to Moorabbin as a gesture to keep him at the club long term?

What an incredible last quarter it was for the Saints. More specifically, what an incredible final minute and a half to deliver one of the best wins you’re ever likely to see.

In a season where not much at all has been good or gone right for St Kilda, there is their signature moment of season 25, and a lasting memory for all their fans forever.

And now, after recording their sixth win of the season after a long wait, they get a chance to add a couple more in quick succession with a fortnight of games against teams in the bottom four. Starting this week with North Melbourne.

The Roos are limping to the finish line of another dismal season that will see them finish deeply entrenched in the bottom four once again.

They were comprehensively smashed by Geelong by 101 points last Saturday night at Marvel Stadium. They were even kind enough to let Jeremy Cameron do whatever the hell he wanted on his way to kicking a bag of 11 goals.

The questions that had been lingering all year were finally said out loud - is this rebuild and plan under super coach Alistair Clarkson actually working?

They were never going to have a realistic chance of beating Geelong (and so the streak stretches on into another year), but to show no defensive ability at all and clear signs of regression? That would be most concerning for the Roos and their fans. But here comes another chance for the Roos to try and bounce back and take a win to show that they have actually made some progress this year.

The Saints will want to finish off strongly and have chances to record some late-season wins to paper over some cracks from earlier in the year.

Are they moments of joy in a poor season? Undoubtedly. What help does it do to the long-term future… maybe cost you the exact type of player you need that you can take with a higher pick in the upcoming draft?

Anyway, the priority for the Saints from now until the end of the trade period is one thing, and one thing only. That’s ‘Project Keep Nasiah’.

At selection, the Saints should welcome back young gun Mattaes Phillipou, who has missed a fair chunk of football this year with different injuries. Lance Collard will be assessed after he was subbed out against the Dees and is more likely to miss than play.

The Saints will also conduct fitness tests on Darcy Wilson, Isaac Keeler, Jack Carroll, and Hugo Garcia, while Paddy Dow is closing fast on his first AFL appearance for the year.

At the Roos, they are confident that spearhead Nick Larkey will finally return after a few weeks out with a knee concern. Cooper Harvey should also be back after a bout of illness. Young midfield bull George Wardlaw should also come back in after a strong VFL performance.

St Kilda vs North Melbourne Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Saints have won the past five head-to-head matches against the Roos, with Marvel Stadium being the venue for all clashes.

The Roos' form downturn has seen them plummet to have the worst overall profile over the past five weeks.. Yes, they’re going even worse than the Eagles, according to the numbers across that period.

The Saints have offensive weapons, and the last quarter against the Dees showed that when they play proactive football, they can be irresistible.

Will North decide to play a hard tag on NAS after his heroics? Surely, after giving Jeremy Cameron some acreage last week, they pay some close attention to the most dangerous player on the ground this week?

We don’t have too many expectations of this game reaching some great heights. The Roos’ inability to defend even at a basic level is alarming, and it’s something that will surely conspire against them when they face the up -and -about Saints.

First Goal Prediction

There’s been plenty of reasons to celebrate at Moorabbin this week. Not just the incredible win, but the new contract that was given to Max Hall after his outstanding season.

After being picked in last year’s mid-season draft, Hall has ranked among the top-rated players in the competition this year. We’re picking him to hit the scoresheet first this week after missing out for the first time in a few weeks against the Dees.

Most Disposals Prediction

North Melbourne’s senior players have got to stand up.

It can’t be on the kids to show the way all the time; it has to fall back on some senior leaders, especially some they bought in for other clubs for this specific reason.

Veteran Luke Parker has enjoyed a good stretch of form, averaging 25.8 disposals per game over the last month, but Clarko will be asking for a vintage Parker performance to give the Roos a chance.

Betting tip: Luke Parker 30+ disposals
