St Kilda Saints vs Melbourne Demons - Round 20 2025

24/07/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

St Kilda hosts Melbourne on Sunday at Marvel Stadium, in a game that, unless you’re a diehard, may not draw much attention as both clubs stumble towards the finish line.

The Saints have now lost nine of their last 10 matches, with their only win, amusingly enough, coming against Melbourne in Alice Springs.

They lost to Geelong last week at the Cattery, a game they were competitive in but ultimately outclassed. Coach Ross Lyon referred to the matchup of young gun Alix Tauru against Jeremy Cameron as a ‘learning experience,’ even though Cameron kicked five goals on him.

The Dees’ tough stretch continued as they failed to follow up a good win against North the previous week, falling to Carlton. Even an effort inspired by Kozzie Pickett wasn’t enough to nearly carry them across the line as they limp toward the end of another season.

With five and six wins respectively, there’s a chance for some late-season nourishment for both sets of supporters here.

Darcy Wilson will be omitted after reporting concussion symptoms from the loss to Geelong. Hugo Garcia will miss another two weeks.

There might be a temptation to play Paddy Dow, who has been pushing for a return following knee complications, but the club could prioritize developing Tobie Travaglia.

At the Dees, Steven May will miss out after entering concussion protocols, so either Blake Howes or Harrison Petty will replace him.

Aidan Johnson, who kicked five goals in the VFL, is expected to be recalled to add some fire to a forward line that’s been lacking spark.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Saints vs Dees prediction and preview below.

St Kilda vs Melbourne Predicted Teams

St Kilda Predicted Team List

B: Liam Stocker, Anthony Caminiti, Alix Tauru

HB: Angus Hastie, Callum Wilkie, Jack Sinclair

C: Marcus Windhager, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Bradley Hill

HF: Mitch Owens, Max Heath, Max Hall

F: Liam Henry, Cooper Sharman, Jack Higgins

Foll: Rowan Marshall, Jack Steele, Jack Macrae

Int: Hugh Boxshall, Mason Wood, Hunter Clark, Ryan Byrnes, Tobie Travaglia

Melbourne Predicted Team List

B: Jake Bowey, Harrison Petty, Judd McVee

HB: Christian Salem, Tom McDonald, Daniel Turner

C: Caleb Windsor, Christian Petracca, Xavier Lindsay

HF: Harvey Langford, Aidan Johnson, Ed Langdon

F: Jake Melksham, Jacob van Rooyen, Kysaiah Pickett

Foll: Max Gawn, Clayton Oliver, Trent Rivers

Int: Bailey Laurie, Harry Sharp, Bayley Fritsch, Kade Chandler, Jack Viney

St Kilda vs Melbourne Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Dees hold sway in the head-to-head, winning four of the past five games, including the last time these two sides faced off at Marvel.

The Saints’ recent record at their home ground is pretty poor, only winning three times there this year.

While the Dees have shown some improvements to their game, it all still feels very Kozzie Pickett-focused.

It’s a coin flip. The Dees have the stars, but the Saints have the exciting kids who have been building towards a win for a little bit. Here’s their chance against a like type to get it done in a close one.

Betting tip: Saints

First Goal Prediction

As speculation on his future continues to swirl, Bayley Fritsch is putting his best foot forward and putting his best form in the shop window.

10 goals from his past five games. He’s getting back to what his best has looked like in his time at the Dees. He’s our pick for the first goal here.

Betting tip: Bayley Fritsch

Most Disposals Prediction

It’s getting desperate for Saints and their fans as they chase the signature to keep superstar Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera.

The problem for St Kilda is, he keeps driving his price up with his performance. And now that he’s taken the step into the midfield full-time in recent weeks, He’s gone to another level.

Averaging 29.9 disposals per game across the year and 33.8 across the last month, he's our pick to top the disposal charts.

Betting tip: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera 35+ disposals

St Kilda Saints vs Melbourne Demons Match Details

Date: Sunday, July 27, 2025

First Bounce: 3:15pm AEST

Location: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne

How to watch: Channel 7, Fox Footy/ Kayo Sports
