St Kilda (known as Euro-Yroke for SDNR) is back in familiar surroundings this week. A Sunday twilight session at Marvel Stadium. There must be nothing like the feeling of home.

I’d imagine that’s what the feeling would be for the Saints after two weeks away and not particularly desirable results.

Someone had to be the first team to lose to the Eagles this year, and the Saints were handed that mantle as they faced a determined Eagles team, no doubt riding an emotional rollercoaster.

It was their fifth loss in six matches, and could have quite easily been six losses in a row if the Dockers weren’t so putrid when they played them too. At 4-6, to say they need a win after a bright start to the season, would be an understatement.

Speaking of shining bright, the Suns are airborne. After another highly successful stay in Darwin - despite being challenged - they have arrived at the mid-point of the season looking poised to finally play finals at 7-3.

John Noble had himself a night to remember in the To End, clocking over 1000 metres gained and continues to prove to be such an impressive and underrated recruit.

Their next assignment is a trip to their coach's favourite place in the world: Marvel Stadium!

The Suns have played some good footy so far this year, but are yet to prove that they are good travelers outside of Darwin. Especially after their last trip to Marvel saw them go down to the Tigers. So it will be interesting to see how they handle this one.

On a selection front, Euro-Yroke will need to replace Jack Macrae after he suffered a punctured lung in the loss to the Eagles. Zak Jones and Hunter Clark should both be in the frame after consistently busy performances in the 2s, it’s just a matter of how much Ross wants to swing the axe.

The Suns' depth will start to get tested after a few injuries in the VFL. Ethan Read is expected to come back after a couple of weeks off. Veteran David Swallow had an impact as the sub last week and might have found his role.

One more thing, this matchup at this venue was a contender for one of the worst games of all time last season, so here’s hoping we get something the polar opposite here!

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Saints vs Suns prediction and preview below.

St Kilda vs Gold Coast Predicted Teams

Saints Predicted Team List

B: Aerie Schoenmaker, Anthony Caminiti, Jimmy Webster

HB: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Callum Wilkie, Jack Sinclair

C: Darcy Wilson, Mattaes Phillipou, Bradley Hill

HF: Max Hall, Mitch Owens, Mason Wood

F: Hugo Garcia, Cooper Sharman, Jack Higgins

Foll: Rowan Marshall, Jack Steele, Hunter Clark

Int: Liam O’Connell, Ryan Byrnes, Marcus Windhager, Tobie Travaglia, Zak Jones

Gold Coast Predicted Team List

B: Bodhi Uwland, Sam Collins, Wil Powell

HB: John Noble, Mac Andrew, Daniel Rioli

C: Sam Clohesy, Matt Rowell, Brayden Fiorini

HF: Ben Ainsworth, Touk Miller, Sam Flanders

F: Ben Long, Ben King, Jed Walter

Foll: Jarrod Witts, Bailey Humphrey, Noah Anderson

Int: Ethan Read, Nick Holman, Joel Jeffrey, Malcolm Rosas, David Swallow

St Kilda vs Gold Coast Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Saints have dominated the recent head-to-head, winning four of the past five matches against the Suns.

Interesting to note, The Suns have only defeated the Saints five times in their history, and have only beaten them once at Marvel Stadium, way back in 2014.

But this is a different Suns team. According to WheeloRatings, they are the top-rated team with the footy in hand, and fourth-rated side when it comes to defending ball movement. By contrast, the Saints are way back in 14th for attack with the footy and 13th for defending without the footy.

But, we’ve seen Ross Lyon pull out some masterful coaching performances to defend ball movement and explosion from stoppage already this season. What does he have up his sleeve this week in a must-win game?

One thing to watch out for here is who Suns defender Wil Powell gets sent to. His battle with Hawks star Nick Watson last week was enthralling. We think he might get the big job on Jack Higgins this week, so the tasks don’t get any easier!

This is normally a game you’d steer clear of picking the Suns because it’s a game you know they would normally drop, but the type of football they’re playing suggests that they are a different team. The Tigers game earlier in the season makes us slightly nervous, but we’re backing them in here to keep rolling.

Betting tip: Suns

First Goal Prediction

With Callum Wilkie set for the job on Ben King, it leaves Jed Walter open for the likes of the Anthony Caminiti or Jimmy Webster matchup.

He’s gone goalless the last two games, but here is a matchup he can likely exploit and get the better of in pristine conditions under the roof. We’re backing him.

Betting tip: Jed Walter

Most Disposals Prediction

With Jack Macrae set to miss a few weeks through injury, it gives Saints skipper Jack Steele the perfect opportunity to get back to what he’s good at. Winning the ball and being a physical presence.

The 29-year-old has averaged only 20.5 disposals per game this season, with a season's best of 29 disposals against the Lions. We’re tipping him to stand up for his team and better that for his team because they need him too.

Betting tip: Jack Steele

St Kilda Saints vs Gold Coast Suns Match Details

Date: Sunday, May 25th

First Bounce: 4:40 PM, AEST

Location: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne

How to watch: Fox Footy/Kayo Sports
