St Kilda Saints vs Brisbane Lions Prediction

Saturday footy begins with St Kilda hosting Brisbane at Marvel Stadium.

The Saints returned home after a fortnight in South Australia, and while they got the early jump against the Bulldogs, they were put in their place fairly quickly thereafter. They felt the full force of the return of the Bont, and were handed another reality check defeat. A loss that saw them fall to 3-3 back to the pack.

The Lions are also coming off a reality check of their own after their undefeated start to the season was ended emphatically at the hands of Collingwood on Easter Thursday.

It might prove to be the jolt that the Lions needed after they had been winning games despite not playing that well. Now, after they have tasted defeat for the first time, they get to travel again, to a ground where they have a brilliant recent record at, and a chance to get their game back in order.

They could be boosted by the return of Kai Lohmann who has missed the past three weeks with an ankle concern. His inclusion would boost a forward line that was starved of opportunities and couldn't make the most of the limited ones that came when they arose.

The Saints too could receive a defensive boost with key defender Dougal Howard set to become available for the first time this year after recovering from a shoulder reconstruction.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Saints vs Lions predictions and preview below.

St Kilda vs Brisbane Lions Predicted Teams

St Kilda Predicted Team

B: Callum Wilkie, Dougal Howard, Jimmy Webster

HB: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Anthony Caminiti, Aerie Schoenmaker

C: Marcus Windhager, Jack Sinclair, Mason Wood

HF: Bradley Hill, Mitch Owens, Bradley Hill

F: Jack Higgins, Cooper Sharman, Max Hall

Foll: Rowan Marshall, Jack Macrae, Jack Steele

Int: Lance Collard, Liam Stocker, Hugo Garcia, Darcy Wilson, Zak Jones

Brisbane Predicted Team

B: Dayne Zorko, Jack Payne, Ryan Lester

HB: Noah Answerth, Harris Andrews, Darcy Wilmot

C: Hugh McCluggage, Jarrod Berry, Zac Bailey

HF: Will Ashcroft, Eric Hipwood, Charlie Cameron

F: Cam Rayner, Sam Day, Logan Morris

Foll: Oscar McInerney, Josh Dunkley, Lachie Neale

Int: Jaspa Fletcher, Levi Ashcroft, Callum ah Chee, James Tunstill, Kai Lohmann

St Kilda vs Brisbane Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Lions have won their last five games against the Saints, including a massive 85-point victory the last time the two teams met at Marvel.

The Lions have enjoyed coming to Marvel Stadium recently, winning 12 of their last 14 games there.

Coach Chris Fagan described their first loss since August as a ‘bad day’ and noted that they were outperformed in several key areas. In particular, the contest and around the ball, an area that has been a strength for them this season, was concerning.

All eyes will be on Ross Lyon to see what he does with selections this week. He made a statement mid-match last week when he substituted livewire Liam Henry before half-time because he wasn’t contributing. After a capitulation and being overwhelmed in the manner they were, it’s possible that more changes might be made.

The Saints have found ways to score this season, mainly through Jack Higgins, who is having a strong year up forward, and Cooper Sharman has made a difference since joining the team in recent weeks.

However, all of the Saints' losses this year have come against teams that move the ball at lightning speed from the back half. On all occasions, the Saints have conceded well over 100 points. This should work to the Lions' advantage with Zorko and Wilmot charging up the half-back line, under the roof in pristine conditions.

The Lions should be too strong here and keep the Saints falling back into the pack.

Betting tip: Brisbane.

First Goal Prediction

Set to play his 150th game this weekend, Lions forward Callum ah-Chee put his name up in lights with a sparkling performance on Grand Final day.

The 27-year-old has become a mainstay of the Lions forward group, and despite getting subbed out last week, we’re backing him to hit the board first in his milestone match.

Betting tip: Callum ah Chee.

Most Disposals Prediction

Like most of his Lions teammates, he was quiet last week. But, it’s been quite the start to the year for Will Ashcroft.

Twice this season the Norm Smith Medallist has topped 30 possessions. Coming first in Rd 3 and then again in Rd 5. So, It’s only natural that we think he might continue the pattern here.

Betting tip: Will Ashcroft (30 + disposals).

St Kilda vs Brisbane Match Details

Date: Saturday, April 26, 2025.

First Bounce: 1:20pm AEST.

Location: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne.

How to watch: Fox Footy/Kayo Sports.
