Ladies and gentlemen, the 2024 AFL season is almost upon us. We’ve already predicted how we think every team will line up for the opening round. Now it’s time to take it up a notch and predict, well, everything else.

For a task of this magnitude, you have to bring out the big guns. That’s why we’ve got former Adelaide and Geelong key forward Josh Jenkins to lend us his footy brain and come up with some bold predictions for the 2024 AFL season.

Keep reading to see who JJ believes will win the flag, the spoon, the Brownlow and more.

AFL Season 2024 Premiership Prediction

Brisbane Lions

They were a kick away from Grand Final glory last season, plus in 2024 they’ll sure up their defense with the addition of Tom Doedee as well as the returning Jack Payne.

The biggest inclusion for the Lions this year however is that of Will Ashcroft. The rising star nominee cruelly ruptured his ACL in round 19 last season and is due back at some point this season.

Still just 19 years of age, Ashcroft has all the tools to be one of the greats and in the 19 rounds he played last year he collected nominations for the Rising Star and Goal of the Year, as well as accruing 10 Brownlow points, the third most of anyone on the Lions.

If Brisbane got within a kick of the flag without these three, imagine what they’ll be able to achieve with them all on deck. For me, 2024 is the year of the Lion.

AFL Season 2024 Wooden Spoon Prediction

West Coast Eagles

From the sublime to the ridiculous. It’s time to pivot from the top to the bottom. While I think the Lions will be sipping from the winner’s cup come season's end, I don’t think things will bode as well for poor old West Coast.

While it’s hard to see them being as bad as last season, it’s also hard to see them being anywhere other than last.

AFL Season 2024 Top 8 Prediction

It is sure to be a thrilling and closely fought race for the finals this year. There are a number of teams that realistically can make the eight, which makes predicting this a daunting task, nevertheless here we go!

1. Brisbane Lions – as previously mentioned, I think this is their year.

2. Carlton – last year’s Preliminary Final berth should give them belief!

3. Collingwood – they won plenty of close ones last year, but they have an army behind them and some generational talents across the ground.

4. Adelaide Crows – the upstarts of the season perhaps. For proof, look at their results against the big dogs last season.

5. Sydney Swans – I like the potential of life after Lance, but do not like the injuries to Parker and Mills.

6. Geelong – six extra weeks to prepare should have them purring.

7. GWS Giants – was last year’s late season surge an aberration or the real deal? I feel they’re somewhere in the middle.

8. Gold Coast Suns – is this the year the Suns finally shine into September? I think so.

AFL Season 2024 Brownlow Medal Prediction

Jordan Dawson or Tom Green

I’m torn between two exceptional footballers both entering their absolute primes. First up is GWS midfielder Tom Green who has established himself as the premier guard dog of the AFL after his sensational performances for the Giants in their finals charge last season.

He led the league in disposals, and another dominant season in the middle of the park for GWS could put him right in the frame for the 2024 Brownlow.

My other Brownlow pick is Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson. He found career best form last season and if he can lead the Crows to the lofty heights I believe they are capable of reaching, he’s as good a candidate for the Brownlow as anyone.

AFL Season 2024 Coleman Medal Prediction

Mitchell Lewis

While I don’t fancy the Hawks to make much of a splash this season, I can’t say the same for their Key Forward Mitch Lewis.

A true sharpshooter, regardless of how his side performs, if Lewis can stay injury free, he can definitely win the Coleman Medal this season.

He currently boasts an average of nearly two goals a game and is one of the finest straight-line shooters in the league.

He missed the start of last season due to a partially torn ACL tear but looks to be ready to rumble from jump in 2024.
