AFL Tips and Predictions - Round 10

Welcome back to the Huddle’s AFL Tips & Predictions for Round 10!

Whilst the round of footy was hard-fought and at times spectacular - we got cleaned up by oncoming traffic!

So as we do, we rebound and go again. Hang in there Huddle followers!

Here’s how we’re looking at another big week of footy. This week marks the beginning of the Sir Doung Nicholls Indigenous Rounds too - always a special fortnight on the calendar.

For the latest analysis, news, odds, and betting tips for all of this week’s action, check out my AFL round 10 tips and predictions below, or follow me on the feed and see them there!

Gold Coast vs Hawthorn Prediction

Thursday, May 15, 7:30pm AEST - TIO Stadium

I’ve landed here… Gold Coast is an AFL cheat code when playing in Darwin.

They’ve won their past seven in the top end and have handled some quality opposition expertly along the way. The Dogs threatened last week, especially when Marcus Bontempelli and Matt Kennedy were on song early.

But, Humphrey, Rowell in Q3, Rioli, and Noble off half-back, and Ben King inside 50 were too much.

Question - when was the last time we saw the Hawks dominate like we saw regularly in the back half of 2024?

Perhaps teams have figured them out to an extent? Or perhaps some of the key cogs that have been missing, Their absences are starting to be felt.

The Suns have been waiting in Darwin all week, preparing for a Hawks assault. I’ll take history’s side, Gold Coast to go to eight on the spin.

Head-to-head prediction: Suns by 11 points

Betting tip: Bailey Humphrey 20+ disposals

Sydney vs Carlton Prediction

Friday, May 16, 7:40pm AEST - SCG

The winner hangs on, The loser goes home. Is this clash that simple?

The Swans are 14th, hanging by a thread at 3-6 on the season. Yes, they almost pinched one under the lid but Essendon obliterated them when the game was up for grabs.

Nine goals to two at halftime is a smashing in any language.

I loved the Blues’ first half against the Saints but then the game stopped to a grind in the second half for some strange reason. They still found a way to win and kept their season alive.

When the Blues are winning clearance and guys like Cerra, Cripps, Walsh, and Hewett are clean around the ball, this team looks capable.

Hewett will go to Heeney - so perhaps the blonde bombshell drifts forward against his former teammate. James Jordon will do the job on Cripps or Walsh - likely the captain.

When we look back on the season, perhaps we will say the loser of this one never recovered…

Head-to-head prediction: Swans by 4 points

Betting tip: Nick Blakey 20+ disposals & anytime goal

Collingwood vs Adelaide Prediction

Saturday, May 17, 1:20pm AEST - MCG

It’s a very good chance we cop an absolute corker here at the home of footy.

The Pies are simply airborne across all phases of the game. They left a few at home last week, which proved no issue as Crisp, Elliott and Bobby Hill stood tall.

Adelaide always felt in control against Port in the Showdown but did allow it to get close late.

Whenever Rankine, The Thrill Seeker, and Fogarty get involved good things happen for this team.

The Crows have run Collingwood close in Melbourne across the past few times they’ve faced them at the G - and I’d expect this to be similar - maybe even an upset and signature win for the South Aussies.

Head-to-head prediction: Crows by 10 points

Betting tip: Jordan Dawson 25+ disposals & anytime goal

GWS Giants vs Fremantle Prediction

Saturday, May 17, 4:15pm AEST - Engie Stadium

I’ve been hanging onto the rope with the Giants, believing they would soon return to their very best.

And we saw that with an epic win in Geelong - their fifth straight at the venue.

Hogan went wild and kicked seven from 22 disposals and nine grabs. Tom Green was everywhere, with 37 and a monster goal. The bad news was Jake Stringer looking deadly before doing a hammy before halftime.

They get back to western Sydney here for a clash with the desperate Dockers - whose season hangs by a thread.

Freo will need to bring some added offensive punch, especially trying to overcome the best key defensive duo in the AFL, Sammy Taylor and Jack Buckley. Buckley was enormous last week against Pat Dangerfield.

Too much GWS here and I think they keep rolling off the back of last week’s monster win.

Head-to-head prediction: Giants by 20 points

Betting tip: Lachie Ash 30+ disposals

Port Adelaide vs Geelong Prediction

Saturday, May 17, 4:15pm AEST - Adelaide Oval

Port were always going to respond off an abysmal loss but in the end, ran out of firepower against their arch rival.

For Geelong, they did enough to win a classic at home against GWS but, ultimately, Jesse Hogan stood between the Cats and victory.

Patrick Dangerfield would be creeping very close to needing a rest whilst Geelong desperately need some troops back on deck. Jack Henry’s absence is being felt enormously.

Sam De Koning will have his hands full with the slipperiness of Mitch Georgiades up front.

Butters and Horne-Francis v Holmes and Smith around the ball will be fun.

Head-to-head prediction: Cats by 11 points

Betting tip: Jeremy Cameron 3+ goals

Western Bulldogs vs Essendon Prediction

Saturday, May 17, 7:35pm AEST - Marvel Stadium

The Dogs have a torrid turnaround from Darwin with a meeting with the in-form Dons.

Marvel Stadium will be full of hope from both sets of fans. For the Dogs, the question will remain, how do we get enough goals to keep winning games of footy?

My answer would be to play Bontempelli forward for almost half the game. Freijah, Kennedy, Liberatore, Richards, and English around the ball are more than enough to generate clearance wins, but when Naughton is down, too much lands on the smaller types in West and Vandemeer to kick a score.

Kyle Langford is an interesting one for Essendon. Back from injury for long enough but not yet impacting games. His class will come to the fore soon enough.

Head-to-head prediction: Dogs by 18 points

Betting tip: Marcus Bontempelli 2+ goals

Richmond vs North Melbourne Prediction

Sunday, May 18, 1:10pm AEST - MCG

The Tigers can keep things rolling here with a perfect opportunity to pinch another win.

The Roos get few chances to play meaningful games at The MCG and whilst this one may not actually be that meaningful, it bloody should be for them.

Sure, the effort was there against the reigning premiers in Tassie but they again had chances to win a game and were unable to take their chance.

It’ll be a small but hostile crowd and a whole bunch of fizzed up Tiger Cubs, North will need to be at their best to win this and will need to take the chances that come their way in crucial moments - something they’ve been unable to achieve.

Head-to-head prediction: Tigers by 11 points

Betting tip: Tim Taranto 25+ disposals & anytime goal

Brisbane vs Melbourne Prediction

Sunday, May 18, 3:20pm AEST - GMHBA Stadium

Brisbane cop the two premiership points, jet home, and move right along.

Sure, the performance was below par for them but they’ve set such lofty heights, it’s no surprise to see them dip in that moment.

I doubt we’ll see a dip here, as the Dees desperately try and cling to their season.

Zorko had 39 last week, so sending some attention his way might be a point of emphasis but when you stop one, another usually bobs up for these Lions.

And Levi Ashcroft is not that far from sewing up the Rising Star as far as I’m concerned. His season is going completely under the radar!

Head-to-head prediction: Lions by 31 points

Betting tip: Zac Bailey 2+ goals

West Coast vs St Kilda Prediction

Sunday, May 18, 4:40pm AEST - Ninja Stadium

Feel free to end the weekend early… unless you think the Eagles can cause a mighty upset.

The Saints have a handful of skilled young players, which was highlighted by the return of Mattaes Phillipou.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera’s signature is becoming a real tipping point for the red white and black.

Jake Waterman v Cal Wilkie will be worth tuning in for - but I won’t blame you if you choose to end the footy weekend early.

Head-to-head prediction: Saints by 24 points

Betting tip: Jack Sinclair 30+ disposals

2025 AFL Premiership Odds
