It’s far from your Mother's Day Classic at the MCG, but it is Richmond hosting the West Coast Eagles in an early-season battle of the cellar dwellers.

These are the types of games that come around, and if you’re not a supporter of either side, you’re hoping it plays out in some form of simulation so you don’t have to sit through and watch it. But if you are a supporter of one of these clubs, it presents an opportunity to get a much-needed win on the board against a similar opponent.

If you’re Richmond, you’re looking at a chance to secure a third win in nine weeks, which, in a season where many experts predicted they would go winless, would massively exceed expectations.

For the Eagles, who are still searching for their first win this season, it presents a chance—possibly their best remaining chance—to get a win on the board.

The Eagles were in the game for a half against the Dees at Optus Stadium last week. They were even in front at halftime before they got a front-row seat to the Max Gawn masterclass, which ensured his team got the win.

Oh, and they lost Jeremy McGovern again to concussion, so they will make the trip to Melbourne without arguably their most important player. Last week’s debutant Bo Allan will also miss the game due to suspension.

The Tigers got touched up in the second half against the Hawks on their big day, but they did show some spirit and fight, which is something that we as a collective have loved seeing from the young Richmond side so far this year as they have embarked on a year of exploration and rebuilding.

Adem Yze would be loving what he’s seeing from his young cubs, and he might even hand out another debut this week. Jasper Alger is the name that is circulating the traps as the next young Tiger who could earn his stripes.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Tigers vs Eagles prediction and preview below.

Richmond vs West Coast Predicted Teams

Richmond Predicted Team

B: Nick Vlastuin, Ben Miller, Nathan Broad

HB: Jayden Short, Noah Balta, Tom Brown

C: Hugo Ralphsmith, Jack Ross, Sam Banks

HF: Sam Lalor, Jonty Faull, Seth Campbell

F: Steely Green, Tom Lynch, Rhyan Mansell

Foll: Toby Nankervis, Tim Taranto, Jacob Hopper

Int: Luke Trainor, Thomson Dow, Jasper Alger, Kamdyn McIntosh, James Trezise

West Coast Predicted Team

B: Reuben Ginbey, Tom Cole, Ryan Maric

HB: Brady Hough, Oscar Allen, Jayden Hunt

C: Liam Duggan, Tim Kelly, Tom Gross

HF: Matt Owies, Jake Waterman, Jack Graham

F: Jamie Cripps, Jack Williams, Liam Ryan

Foll: Matt Flynn, Jack Hutchinson, Harley Reid

Int: Elijah Hewett, Tyler Brockman, Archer Reid, Sandy Brock, Tyrell Dewar

Richmond vs West Coast Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

While the Eagles claimed the win the last time these two sides met, It’s the Tigers that have won four of the last five matches head-to-head.

In that run of four wins, two of them have come at the MCG. A ground that the Eagles have not won at since Round 8 2021. Granted they have only played there five times since 2020, but it’s a record not in their favour. Especially heading into a winnable game.

It’s a grudge match of sorts for a pair of Eagles. This is the first time that Liam Baker and Jack Graham will go up against their old side. They will have big roles to play as senior players in a struggling side. Matt Owies will also return to the MCG for the first time being shipped out West. He hasn’t had as big a days as Graham and Baker have had on the MCG, but unlike maybe a handful of his teammates, he has a win on the MCG to his name.

This will be a game where it will be on the senior leaders of both sides more than most. Whichever group stands up tallest, will probably be the side that comes away with the four points.

We’re inclined to side with the Tigers here because of that reason. Taranto, Short, Nankervis, Vlastuin, Hopper, Lynch, and even Noah Balta… There should be enough senior leadership around the park to ensure a result is taken back to Punt Rd.

Betting tip: Richmond

First Goal Prediction

Veteran Eagle Jamie Cripps has played his role as a senior head in the Eagles forward line this year. With Oscar Allen set to play back again in the absence of Jeremy McGovern, he will be looked for up front.

The Eagles need to shop early if they want to have any chance here.

Betting tip: Jamie Cripps

Most Disposals Prediction

The two Tiger bulls in the middle are set to do most of the work again for the young cubs.

Tim Taranto has gone two weeks off -one week on when it comes to hitting the 30 disposal mark this season. He’s just had his two weeks off… you know what that means.

Betting Tip: Tim Taranto (30 disposals)

Richmond vs West Coast Match Details

Date: Sunday, May 10th

First Bounce: 1:10 PM, AEST

Location: MCG, Melbourne

How to watch: Fox Footy/ Kayo Sports
