Richmond Tigers vs Gold Coast Suns Prediction - Round 2 2026

17/03/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

Gold Coast will arrive at the MCG with momentum for this Round 2 matchup against Richmond, who’re desperate to nab their first win of the year.

The Gold Coast Suns have emerged as betting favourites to win the flag after an impressive start to their 2026 campaign. Coach Hardwick has the boys humming following their maiden finals appearances in 2025.

The young Tigers bring a much more competitive list following a re-build year in 2025 and they showed their grit in a Round 1 battle against Carlton.

Debutant and 2024’s no.1 draft pick Sam Lalor looked at home in the AFL, with some nice touches as they fell just short against the Blues.

Jayden Short and Taranto were also standouts in a losing side and will have to step up again for them to challenge the Suns this weekend.

The Gold Coast midfield outfit boasts one of the most clinical attacks in the league. Noah Anderson continues to pull the strings, while superstar recruit Christian Petracca is back to his brilliant best on the Goldy.

Ben King can do no wrong as he’s kicked his way to nine goals in just the opening two matches in a brilliant start to the season as he considers re-signing to stay at the Gold Coast.

This match is shaping up to be a learning experience for Richmond, as the Gold Coast look better than ever in season 2026.

Richmond Tigers vs Gold Coast Suns Match Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Damien Hardwick returns to the scene where he led Richmond to two premierships. These two clashed twice last season with Gold Coast easily winning the most recent, but the Tiger cubs did win at Marvel Stadium early last season.

Timmy Taranto was immense for the Tigers in that win with 35 disposals and a goal.

Despite this match being played in Victoria, these Suns seem to have risen to a different level over the offseason. They ran through West Coast in a 59-point demolition but were just as impressive when they defeated Geelong in the Opening Round.

Christian Petracca is cleaning up in Brownlow voting, Ben King has plenty of goals, and Matt Rowell is not even healthy yet. Once Hardwick’s Suns get all their stars back on deck, it’ll be a frightening matchup for any opponent.

Richmond’s army will come out in force trying to annoy, irritate, and ultimately defeat Hardwick’s new boys, but the Suns should shine on the big stage and silence the Tigers faithful early.

We expect the Suns’ star power to be too much for a Richmond side still finding their stripes.

Head-to-head prediction: Gold Coast Suns by 41 points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

Ben King has been in a rich vein of form and is consistently finding himself on the end of the Suns' slick midfield transition.

Given the Tigers' defense is still settling into a new era, King should find plenty of space early to lead the charge and slot the first major of the afternoon.

Betting tip: Ben King.

Most Disposals Prediction

Noah Anderson is the Suns general in the midfield. He’ll be charged with calling the shots and carrying out Dimma’s gameplan.

Last time these two faced, Anderson dished out a 38-disposal masterclass. We expect him once again to dominate the clearance battle at the MCG and lead the stats sheet for involvements.

Betting tip: Noah Anderson.
