Richmond Tigers vs Collingwood Magpies - Round 20 2025
24/07/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions
The Tiger cubs have been one of the stories of the season.

Plenty of pundits thought they would go through season 2025 winless; instead, they have five, and their latest one (yes, you need to take the opposition into account) was the most clinical of them all.

A 49-point win, away from home, was such a complete performance and a great endorsement for the work that Adem Yze has done this year with his Richmond team. He’s given them all opportunities to strut their stuff and show what they have while maintaining the balance with the older guys in the squad.

One underrated thing he’s done, too, is show that he isn't afraid to make some younger guys who have been there for a while, and that started to be repaid on the weekend, too. Maurice Rioli Jr. with his chasedown tackle moment showing his growth, while Tyler Sonsie appeared to have his ‘penny drop’ game too.

They come home to the MCG to face the ladder leaders Collingwood. While still sitting pretty at the top of the ladder, some questions are being asked of them now after they’ve dropped two games in a row.

The latest, a crazy game against Freo at the MCG. 22 points up in the last quarter, they were, and in a very un-Collingwood-like fashion, overrun on their home turf.

Now starting to get hit by a few injury concerns too; some wobbles are emerging for the premiership favourites.

It’s not time to sound the alarm and declare that there are problems; rather, a few late-season kinks to be ironed out that every club gets at some stage during the season, and here it is for the Pies.

It’s nothing a Sunday session at the MCG shouldn’t fix, though. Especially with some big games on the horizon as they head into September. It’s a chance for the young Tigers to once again test themselves against the very best in the competition.

The Tigers will be boosted by the return of Noah Balta, whose court-imposed curfew is now over, and he is available for the rest of the season.

Forward Seth Campbell will come out of the side after suffering a concussion in an incident of friendly fire against the Eagles. Jasper Alger and Steely Green are among the contenders to replace him after performing well in a VFL scratch match on the weekend.

For the Pies, they are set to be without livewire Bobby Hill for a fifth straight week. Jeremy Howe, Beau McCreery, and Dan Houston also look set to miss again with respective injuries.

Billy Frampton is expected to return, as is Tim Membrey, who was managed last week.

Mid-season draftee Roan Steele went back to the VFL and kicked four goals in a statement to say ‘get me back in the 1s’. Youngster Harry De Mattia keeps pushing for his senior debut after winning another stack of the ball.

Richmond vs Collingwood Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Collingwood holds sway in the recent head-to-head, winning three of the past five matches.

Despite their wobbles, the Pies still maintain their place at the top of the standings on top of the ladder, and are ranked overall best profile on offence and defence.

The Tigers have scored the fewest points in the competition in the season to date, and penetrating this Pies defensive unit seems unlikely.

Eyes will also be locked on the ruck duel between Toby Nankervis and All-Australian hopeful Darcy Cameron. Can Cameron enhance his claims against one of the standard bearers and one of the tougher ruck opponents in big Nank?

We’re looking for some fight and pluck from the Tigers, but all signs for us point to a comfortable Collingwood win.

First Goal Prediction

It’s been another stellar season for Collingwood forward Brody Mihocek.

30 goals to his name, he rarely misses and makes the harder shots at goal look increasingly easy.

He has six goals from the past three weeks and is timing his form right when Collingwood needs him firing.

Most Disposals Prediction

You cannot deny the form of the young champ Nick Daicos at the moment.

43 disposals last week, he’s in a run of sparkling form, averaging 33.8 touches per game over the last five weeks.

He has five Brownlow votes from his three career games so far against the Tigers and averages 33.3 touches a game against Richmond.
