Richmond Tigers vs Adelaide Crows Prediction - Round 16 2025
26/06/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions
Sunday football begins at the MCG, where Richmond hosts the Adelaide Crows.

The Tigers were no match for the Bulldogs last Sunday when they fell to the Dogs at Marvel Stadium. They did rally late to avoid being restricted to their lowest-ever score under the roof and to restore some respectability on the scoreboard, but it was most likely a glimpse of what might come in the second half of the season for them.

It’s the middle of a tough three-week stretch for the Tigers, who came off the Bulldogs' heavy loss last week, host the Crows at the G this week, and then finish the run with a trip down the highway to face the Cats.

Adem Yze will tell his players that it’s all about hanging tough and learning as much as they can from their more highly-rated opponents.

The Crows, who will be well-rested after their mid-season bye, will get one final look at the MCG this regular season before potentially returning in the finals, if they qualify.

A win here over the Tigers should further strengthen their top-four chances. They will know before the game whether they need to win to stay in the top four at the end of the round. The Crows are currently one of four teams with nine wins, and three teams are at 9-5. They will see this as a great opportunity to secure a strong win.

Plus, while it might mean little in the grand scheme, getting one over the Tigers at the MCG after the 2017 Grand Final... it wouldn’t be at the top of their wish list, but it would provide a small moment of closure.

On the selection front, the kids are making their way back for the Tigers, with number one pick Sam Lalor possibly returning to AFL level or playing in the VFL. Defender Jacob Blight continues to put up strong numbers in the reserves but has struggled to get a game since early in the season.

For the Crows, James Peatling is available again after his one-match suspension and is likely to be included automatically. There’s anticipation around a potential debut for Charlie Edwards, but Matthew Nicks might hold off on that for now. Key defender Nick Murray is also available again after recovering from a knee injury and a stint in the SANFL.

Richmond vs Adelaide Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Tigers hold sway in the recent head-to-head against the Crows, winning four of the past five battles.

Thanks to a quirk of the draw and a small thing called the COVID pandemic, this will be just the second time that these two sides have met at the MCG since the 2017 Grand Final.

Despite their wayward kicking last start against the Hawks in Tassie, the Crows are still the fourth-best attacking team in the competition, sitting third overall for points for. It spells trouble for a Richmond side that needs to restrict their opponents to lower than 80 points if they are to win this season, and the Crows have cleared that marker easily in nine of their 14 games to date this season. Although in three of their five losses, they haven’t registered 80 points, which could give the Tigers some hope.

The Crows have made a habit of feasting and filling their boots against sides on the bottom rungs of the ladder in recent years, though, and we think that’s going to happen again here.

First Goal Prediction

Superstar Crow Izak Rankine notches his 50th game in the tri-colours this week since his high-price, high-profile trade from the Suns. Whatever it was they paid for him, though, hefty as it was, it looks like a bargain now.

After his last shot at the MCG (after the siren in the loss to the Pies) didn’t get close to the mark, we’re tipping him to have a big and fun day in front of the sticks, starting with the first one here.

Most Disposals Prediction

The move back to halfback has been awesome for Rory Laird this season. He’s rediscovered his best, All-Australian form and is helping drive the Crows forward.

He averages 29 disposals per game in his last five against the Tigers. We think he’ll set himself up for a big one, too, against a team he enjoys playing well against.

Betting tip: Rory Laird 25+ disposals
