Port Adelaide Power vs Fremantle Dockers Prediction - Round 22 2025

06/08/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

The Ken Hinkley farewell tour is starting to get a bit messy.

Another week, another big loss—this time against Geelong—on the back of that Showdown drubbing from the Crows. Both games now sit among the heaviest defeats in Hinkley’s 12 seasons at the helm. It’s not exactly the send-off anyone at Alberton would’ve been hoping for.

With three rounds to go, the Power are trying to find something to spark a turnaround. And maybe this week, they’ve found it. Club legend Travis Boak announced his retirement, bringing the curtain down on an incredible 19-season career and more than 380 games—the most by any Port Adelaide player ever. So now, the Boaky farewell tour begins.

It kicks off Saturday night against a red-hot Fremantle side that just keeps on winning.

The Dockers survived a serious scare from Carlton last week but powered home in the second half to chalk up their 10th win in the last 11 games. They’re absolutely in the hunt for a top-four finish now, and no one’s sleeping on them anymore.

That said, there’s a twist—they’ve never beaten Port at Adelaide Oval.

Still, Freo’s been the road warrior team of 2025. They’ve won just about everywhere this year, so they’ll back themselves in to finally knock off the Power at home.

Port’s injury list has been a headache for a while now, but there’s some relief in sight. Captain Connor Rozee looks set to return, and there’s optimism around Jack Lukosius too. Jase Burgoyne is in doubt after picking up a leg knock against the Cats, so he might miss.

For the Dockers, there was a big sigh of relief when scans confirmed Hayden Young’s adductor issue was only minor. He’ll still be handled with care, though, with finals on the horizon.

Skipper Alex Pearce could be back after a lengthy spell with shin issues—he just needs to tick off main training. Corey Wagner is also in the mix after overcoming heel soreness.

Then there’s the wildcard: Nat Fyfe.

The two-time Brownlow Medallist returned in the WAFL last weekend, racking up 27 touches in managed minutes. Does Justin Longmuir roll the dice and bring him in? Maybe as the sub again—assuming he makes it through the warm-up this time.

Either way, not a bad luxury to have a player like Fyfe waiting in the wings.

Port Adelaide vs Fremantle Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Power holds sway in the recent head-to-head, winning three of the last five matches against the Dockers.

It was against the Power earlier this year where the Dockers' run started gathering momentum, recording a stirring 49-point win at home. But as mentioned earlier, the Dockers have never managed to defeat the Power at the Adelaide Oval.

The Power defence has leaked like a sieve over the past five weeks as their season has gone off the rails. They have the third-worst defensive profile in the competition over the past month and have had upwards of 40 goals kicked on them in the past two weeks.

While the Dockers' attacking profile isn't among the best in the competition (12th over the past five weeks), they have crept into the top eight over that time for ‘points for’.

All three of the Dockers' key forwards, Josh Treacy, Jye Amiss, and Patrick Voss, got on the scoreboard last week, as did ruckman Luke Jackson, who has elevated his game in a big, big way.

It should be too much to overwhelm the Power. That’s what we think here anyway.

Betting tip: Dockers

First Goal Prediction

The huge plus in the Dockers have two of the best midfielders in the competition in Brayshaw and Serong means that the most dangerous player in their team, Shai Bolton, might go unchecked.

After a down game against the Blues, we’re backing him to get back on track with the first one here in a big game.

Betting tip: Shai Bolton

Most Disposals Prediction

Ollie Wines played a lone hand in the midfield last week, with stand-in skipper Zak Butters well clamped to a season low 10 possession game. His lowest tally ever in a completed game.

Despite recording just 18 touches two weeks ago in a game against the Hawks, Butters has still averaged a strong 27.4 touches per game in the 17 he’s played this year. He’ll shape a lot of what Port Adelaide does in this game, and we’re picking him to bounce back strongly.

Betting tip: Zak Butters 30+ disposals
